I think it is unethical and dishonorable to state in basic training that if you quit they will attach your social security number and you wont be able to get a job.

I think its dishonorable to quit something after you've committed to it.

That depends, when you commit as in any agreement it has to be a two way street, both parties have to be getting something and both sides happy with the position otherwise its a scam and not a contract.

And so the recruit being "dishonorable" in your opinion relives the command master sgt of his accountablity to telling the truth? But I guess if he views the recuits as subhuman he can lie because there not people.

Incidentally, this lie started at Lackland AFB, basic training, in 1959...

You are whining. You state fact as you percieve it. Just as you think if you aren't happy with a contract is becomes a scam. Thats utter BS. You knew what it entailed, and if you didn't, YOU should have read it, and asked questions. A lot of people don't. I see it everyday. A perosn's inability to ask a question or get clarification is not my problem. I'm sick of people painting some picture that the military lied to them. Its a crock of BS, and we all know it.

No, it wasn't. As for you not getting medical/dental care, thats not the first time I've heard that. My father is a USAF retiree and received it, but a family friend retired from the USAF 4 years ago, and didn't. Its a TRICARE vs. CHAMPUS/DEERS issue. The VA still hasn't addressed it in the manner they should.

Fact: according to EEOC a bad discharge can not be used against you in a back ground check for employment purposes. (unless the discharge was dishonorable and the court martial offence was a felony that would carry over to the civilian world. So if you were court martialed for aggravated assult that would carry over, if you were court martialed for AWOL, that does not exist in the civilian world so it would not count against you, of course you would probably have to get a lawyer at that point).

Fact: training bases claim they will attach your social security number if you quit basic.

This is what it ultimatly comes down to as with any contract or deal, real estate, a job, military contract, etc. Some deals are good and some not so good and some bad.

When you are first starting off in life it is more difficult to see bad deals from good deals and that is what experence provides but you cant go into safe mode and do nothing because that is worse than doing something and making a mistake.

All a military contract boils down to for me is a mistake made on a bad deal, just like any other mistakes in life you have to cut your losses and move on.

Its the fact that cutting the loss with the military gets taken personally (honor, integrety, etc) and hyped way up and they make it way hard to cut out thoes losses which adds in more time and energy to get out. If I had entered into a "contract" for a piece of real estate and lost money I would cut my losses and move on, there would not be all of this hype surrounding my decision to sell, etc. And a military contract is no different.

I entered into a contract that was a bad deal and I cut my losses (my time and sanity) and then I get personally attacked for a buisness decission.
