Well im 21, I have worked a few jobs and nothing seems to gain my interest. I can not really afford to go to school to further my education so im looking at how im going to make a decent living for myself and my soon to be wife. I wont go into the life story but basically Im really thinking hard about joining. Airplanes have always really caught my interest and being a mechanic on them seems like an amazing job that I would love to do. My questions are:
Wheb starting out as just an enlisted airman, how does it all work? I assume you get shipped off to basic (how is that, what does it consist of?) Then i would assume you go to training for your job? If that is the case, do you choose what you do? If I wanted to be a jet mechanic, would I go strait to school for it or how does that all work? -How do you become an officer? -What is the difference in job duties of an officer vs. regular enlisted person? -Where are you typically stationed? Do you get stuck out in the desert or are you mostly at a decent base somewhere, and do you get to chose where you go or is that up to them? -If I want to go to college in the airforce for the jet mechanic, how does all of that work? -What is the job schedule? Do you work 7 days a week, a set schedule with 2 days off ect? |

I also have another question. I assume that your job placement would depend on your asvap scores.. I took them about 3 years ago in high school. Would I need to retake? Also, what kind of questions are on there? is it like a common sense test or are there hard math problems and stuff? I havent been to school or anything for a few years so I really dont remember alot of the simple stuff. Would I need to study up? Also can you take it to see what you qualify for before you sign? I would hate to not be able to get into any of the stuff I really want to do because my scores arent high enough

Hate to be an ass, and tell ya "Google is your friend", but....Many of these questions can be answered real simply:
http://www.airforce.com/ Poke around this site, then talk to a recruiter (there's even an online submission for info here and an online chat. Click the "Contact Us" tab). That will probably answer about 90% of your questions. |

I was always told to look for the questions first then if you cant find it, look again, if still trouble seek help.
Still do always will. I have explained everything above correctly, it’s your interpretation which is incorrect. I am above reproach, your obviously not, or I wouldn’t be talking to you. |
