I swore in thursday woohoo! I dident qualify for any flight jobs at MEPS but the AF guys there told me i could take the the flight physical again @ basic and i could get aeriel gunner or flight engineer like i really want. Is this possible? If not it looks like i might be getting tactical maint. which wont be be bad thing but i really want a flying job.

Well, you should have gotten what you wanted in writing before you swore in. But, all is not lost. You can still get reclassed while at basic, at that point all it takes is to get a couple numbers changed. The main thing is to ask the TI how to get that process started and who you need to speak to. At basic there are plenty of opportunities to speak to officials who can get your AFSC changed. Remember to BE PERSISTENT...but don't be rude about it. They might try and tell you something like "well the Air Force needs tactical maint. guys...don't you wanna help your country?" That's a load of crap, they're just trying to avoid the paperwork. Most flight jobs are in demand right now, just be adamant that you're interested in changing AFSC's and don't just settle for answers like "um, we'll get back to you..." Good luck.

Why didn't you qualify for any flight jobs? What were your disqualifiers?

Sorry I misread your question. I thought MEPS gave you the runaround about flight jobs. If you didn't qualify, I guess you could go the same route as I said originally. But that all depends on what you were disqualified for and what flight job you're trying to get.

There are some disqualifiers that will keep you from flight status forever. Colorblindness, having no depth perception, Speech impediment, use of certain drugs, coke bottle glasses (depending on what job you want). I'm pretty sure in the AF they aren't hurting for enlisted aircrewman, so any disqualifier you have will keep you out of flight status.

It amazes me that people still join even though they are not qualified for what they want to do and think they can change it once they sign up. The military has no motivation once you sign up.

And it amazes me at the lack of motivation that someone like yourself has. If you're persistent enough, you can do just about anything in the military. Do a good job and standout among your peers and you get noticed. If you're good at what you do and you make yourself an asset instead of a liability, then you get to pick and choose what you want to do. Of course, you wouldn't know about this rppearso, you didn't serve long enough to ever find that out.

I dident stay in because:
1. I dident want to go through basic again (OCS) 2. I was not going to sign up for 6 more years 3. if I dident sign for 6 more years I couldent fly and the army does not have chemical engineers the engineers they do have are army corp of engineers and are mostly civilian. So that leaves me with nothing left in the military that I want to do. |

Nope serving my state was, and as a pilot, I already knew I dident have what it took to be on the ground but I have the skills (or aptitude, ie AFAST test) to pilot. The problem is the gauntlet they run you through with the ground soldiers first.

5. I'm too good to be a real soldier.

I would not say too good, I would say more like not good enough, I stated in another post that just because I have the aptitude and degree does not mean I am cut out for service. However when all of this is found out there should not be a major effort to force you to stay in.

rationalization implys that an argument can not truely be backed up but a justification can be. It seems like you just like to throw out a few buzz phrases/words instead of actually rebuking my points.

Thank you patoloco, he has trouble with English as a first language which belies his so-called education.
rppearso, you have no points to which we might discuss because you only have one and it is impossible to educate you beyond your myopic view of life. "It is fatal to enter any war without the will to win it" DOUGLAS MacARTHUR, 1952 |

Is it really so bad to have a myopic view of life?

Yes, it signals a stagnation of growth both socially and mentally.
