Hi there, I'm 21, a Filipino-American Flight Instructor working in Subic, Philippines right now.
I have a B.S degree, I'm a U.S. Citizen , and would like to apply for a job in the Airforce as soon as possible. I've contacted some recruiters and fortunately, I'm going to meet up with one in a few days. Let's just say I'm a bit excited about applying and so i would like to ask some questions here. 1.) I would like to join the Air force and become an officer though Basic Officer Traning(BOT). Is the recruiter that will put me in BOT supposed to be an officer too? 2.) I have a Flight Instructor License Issued by ATO(Philippines) and expires 31 July 2008(end of the month). I'm thinking since I won't use it anymore(if i get accepted after AFOQT and BOT), should I still renew it before the end of the month? I heared that for a foreign pilot license, there are restrictions to it after i convert it over there. I'm thinking, What if I surrender my license here(not renew it), get my hours certified, and go straight to U.S and start over in the military with a license that will have no restrictions when i fly!?..haha.. what do you guys think?.. -CJG- |

Not sure how to answer this question concerning your instructors license expiring. Seems to me that it would be better to hold a current license rather than an expired one considering where you are wanting to go. Just don't be too surprized when they tell you to forget everything you already know about flying. They'll teach you what they want you to know.

Sounds like the perfect question for your local recruiter. The Gunny's right though as far as the USAF tending to ignore your civilian training. Of course it looks good on your history and gives you a better chance of getting a flight slot, but there's no tougher competition than trying to get a slot in the Air Force. Not that I don't think you'll get, more that I think you might have trouble transfering your civilian hours over to a military transcript. But I'm no recruiter and they should be able to pave the way for you or get you someone who can.
I went into the gas station today and asked for five dollars worth of gas.... The clerk farted and gave me a receipt. |

Hello there, sorry for the late reply. I really appreciate your and the TheGunny's reply. I have talked to a recruiter already and I'm also in the process of trying to get a schedule to take the AFOQT. Once again, thanks for the advice Sir.

Hello guys, I know it's been a long time. I just want to thank everyone for their advice regarding my application. I finally got ahold of the right recruiter(heavenly sent) but i'm still in the application process. Thanks once again and God bless you all.

Cj, I just back from an overseas trip and read your question and the other answers. In any US service you can not become a commissioned officer (which means appointed by Congress and therefore capable of a Command)unless you have completed a bachelor degree from a reputable US University/College, have completed ROTC or equivalent training and are a US citizen. The USAF does its own training, civilian certificates are helpful but are also in that respect meaningless. The USAF pilots are (as far as I know) all commissioned Officers.
