Hey there, I would really like to be a member of the USAF. I talked to a recruiter today and she asked about my criminal history. Let me fill you in and then I am basically wondering what you guys think as to whether or not I will qualify for the Air Force. When I spoke with the recruiter today I informed her that when i was either 16 or 17 I was charged with theft. (I started attending a new school, i didnt know anyone, i was very impressionable and one day in class a girl left the room and money was sticking out of her purse and a couple guys dared me to take it, well i wanted to look like a bad ass so i did, and well i got caught) 150 hours community service. I stayed out of trouble, maybe besides a speeding ticket or two, until i was 19 or 20 and in college. I got 3 underage drinking citations and was placed on unsupervised probation. I am now 21 about to be 22 on June 1st. That is my criminal history. What do you guys think?

Simple really. Disclose this information and see what they do with it. After all, its what they think that counts, not what we in here are thinking.

I am in the Air Force so I can answer this. The theft won't be an issue although the drinking could be. USAF recruiters need someone who is going to be responsible with the planes and not endanger themselves or others.

I trust yer not buying into that answer. Tehft and drinking are both serious problems, not to mention either or can be a disqualifiers.

Both of those issues can be disqualifying like the gunny said. The turing point will be hard hard your recruiter will work to get those waivered or if he can waiver that many charges.

I've heard that the USAF has so many applicants that they don't accept waivers any more. But looking at your record I also suggest, like the colleagues above, that you present that honestly to a recruiter and see what he/she says. Except for the money theft it all looks relatively normal. Speeding tickets don't count and you need not even mention them.

DUI is important, that said you need to lay it out to the recuriter and don't lie. Me as a platoon sergeant I would not want a soldier that I have to worry about that has had DUI's in the past that might have them again in the future, I have to much to worry about for that, but that is just me.
