I know this may sound like a VERY stupid question but it is really scaring me, I am going in to talk to my recruiter tomorrow and I am going to be filling out some background information. Now I know that they ask if you have ever used drugs. Now I have tried marijuana before. I never really got into it, and I have only ever smoked 2-3 times. My best friend got caught up in that life style and I cut off from him totally our senior year in high school because I did not want to be associated with someone who does/sells drugs. I regret even trying it ever as it never really did anything for me. This was over a year and a half ago (I'm 19). Now I've heard stories of people who have admitted to trying marijuana and being denied entrance into the air force and any other service for that matter. Now I would simply answer no to the question but my intestines tell me to answer truthfully. But I also don't want to be denied from joining the air force flat out. But at the same time I don't want to risk the coming back to bite me in the ass either and leaving me with a dishonorable discharge either. Or being allowed to join and getting stuck doing a job I didn't want to do. Could you please tell me what to do, without quoting some website or something like some people on yahoo answers did to me.
All help is GREATLY appreciated, also I am sorry for the story book of a post as well. |

OK, fully disclose anything and everything. Full disclosure up front is the only route to obtaining a clearance. This is critical because if you don't disclose up front and they uncover this during the full background investigation, you will be declined.
Look up the word integrity. The opposite of integrity is hypocrisy. Anyone who tells you differently doesn't know what they are talking about. This message has been edited. Well I told the truth, my recruiter said not to worry about it, as I don't have ANY criminal record, and its not like I was ever a stoner or anything.

See this discussion regarding marijuana and security clearances:
http://forums.militaryspot.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/84610...561065403#2561065403 The Air Force right now has its pick of recruits. They can afford to be very picky about who they let in and what waivers they can grant/deny. My advice would be if the Air Force recruiter tells you he can't get you in with your minimal marijuana use, the other services are more than willing to have you. |
