I'd like to be a linguist in the AF, but I'm wondering if I'd be able to pass the background check as I have made it clear to my family and friends that I think the official story of 9-11 is bogus. Let me make it clear that I didn't join this forum to discuss that matter and I'm choosing to refrain from doing so under all circumstances, just as I would if I were a member of the Air Force. I don't think my opinion on the matter would affect my ability to serve my country because my country and its military that defends me are not to blame.
So is it in any way possible to overcome this issue, or are my dreams crushed? Thanks for your time.

Whats your point? I don't think that you are the only one that has that opinion. But that is what a free country allows doesn't it? The right to speak your mind and not get any flack for it. Have a happy life.

well I didn't really have a point, more of a question. I'm not too worried wether or not they allow it because of course your allowed an opinion. My concern is wether or not I'd pass the background check.

You can believe whatever you want and probably pass a background test. But when they send you to Afghanistan are you going to be able to do your job?

My guess is you don't really belong in the military, and don't you really don't belong in intelligence if you have these beliefs.

And you don't think your opinions impact your military service?

I'm not quite sure you're thinking this through or even understand that you're accusing the government WHO YOU WILL WORK FOR of murder. That they killed their own service members in the Pentagon (or do you believe the attack on the Pentagon never happened?). The fact that the Pentagon was attacked involves the military with the attacks- and if you think the U.S. government had anything to do with it, then (by extension) your conspiracy involves the military.

well crazy duck, I won't be discussing my opinion of what happened, or possible military involvement in "my conspiracy". All I'll say is that I'm good at learning languages and I'd like to do so while helping my country gain useful intel. I think that is enough motivation to do my job. if you're interested, go to patriotsquestion911.com where you can find the names and statements of PLENTY of high ranking miltary and civilian intelligence community people who share my opinion. Thanks again for your responses.

I wonder if you really want to join? But if you do then go through with your training to learn the Intel buisness then request to be a HUMIT resource then get in there and get your hands dirty and you may learn if what you think is true, tho it takes a special person to be on the ground with the HUMIT job. Either way you decide to go good luck. But I like the others don't think you should be in the military. Just my .02
But even if you don't talk about what you think, it will come out in the ways you act and the way you do things.

I've wanted to join the military since I was little. My dad was in the Marines and that's what I wanted to do until reality set in. I think we can all say for sure that I'm not a Marine type! Thanks for the tip coachman. I'll look into HUMIT. In what ways do you think my opinion would show? I'm a quiet and relatively passive person by nature, and my love of this country and desire for adventure overrun the urge to express my opinions.

Well, I dont think you'll have any problems at all joining the military or passing the background check. If you havent expressed a desire to bring down the government or parts of it then you will be fine.

I dont think your going to fit in well in the miitary though if you are vocal about your opinions of 9/11. Questioning your government while serving in the military (which is run my the government) does inspire a lot of trust amongst your co-workers.

Good luck though

USAF HUMINT is difficult to get into. It's a very small and unorganized specialty (it's not even a primary job skill). HUMINT is not an entry level MOS. Linguist is probably the best way to enter HUMINT in the AF. The only service that offers HUMINT as an entry level MOS is the Army.

And, as you said, you don't want to debate the 9-11 issue, but the website you reference is...."suspect" at best in my opinion.

I was Marine HUMINT for 17 years and held a Top Secret Clearance. I had access to all kinds of info related to 9-11. All of it was in accordance to the official findings. Three of my best friends witnessed the plane crash into the Pentagon (the one that several of your sources say was "impossible"). They also held TS Clearances. I guess we're all in on it, huh?

As long as you serve with honor and distinction, you shouldn't have any problems.

I trust that when facts are presented, you will be able to decipher the truth from them.

Just remember one thing, everyone is entitled to thier own opinions. Those folks on that webpage are entitled to thiers, just don't expect everyone to agree with them.

Why join anything in which you think there is an " evil aspect " too? HarryP shut this debate down with 8 words.

I don't remember writing that I thought there was an evil aspect to the military. It is what it is- there is evil and good in it, like many things, (ie medicine, law, politics...wait, I take that last one back). Harry P is right, but something I found that has helped me a lot with my question is the "Adjudicative Desk Reference" published by the DOD. It seems that getting access to lower level security clearance is not as hard as I thought. It's a very interesting read.
