He just got back from his week out on field training excercises and he was telling me and my wife how surprisingly easy it is. Should I believe him? Or do you think he is just blowing smoke up my rump?

Well, if he was expecting "Full Metal Jacket", then, yeah, he might be laughing about now.....It ain't Marine Boot, that's for sure. Even the Airmen I work with admit it's kinda of a pussy boot camp.

I took USAF basic training in Lackland in 1964. I know that is history, but I still think about it now and then. I remember that it wasn't easy because it was opressively hot in June and July when I was there. I could write pages about how it was then. They (the DIs) chased us out at 0500 and kept us busy until 2100. KP (Kitchen Police) was still a repetitive duty and we (the enlisted Airmen) had to serve the Officer Cadet's food in their dining hall, which I thought to be very degrading. I still remember sewing my first stripe on by hand, with a sewing kit the USAF provided. It looked awful.

i definately agree that BMT was very easy. the first few weeks was a shocker mainly because it was all new stuff that i have never done before, but best believe your son when he says that it is a little easier than expected. hes lucky though, starting in november, theyre extending BMT from 6.5 weeks to 8.5 weeks long, and thats something im glad i didnt have to go through. and the field training was probably the most challenging, and thats not saying much considering how easy that was to get through.

the new USAF green boots are the most annoying thing about the new uniforms. but i love them anyways Big Grin
