27 yrs old
Male 220 74in. ( 6 more lbs. to lose ) 6 yrs exp. in Telecom. Industry ( Very Large Account for Wachovia Corp.Data Center, N.C., V.A. Hospitals , Fiber Optics etc....) 2 yrs of college , Assoc.D. not completed, Major: Telecommunication Eng. Minor: Computer Network Eng. Im shooting for a Telecom. job, like a Wire Dawg or Cable dawg. I want to know what to ask for during the sign up? Money is not the issue, I would like to get some recognition (Rank) for my experience. (experience which I know is useless to the USAF due to the reformatting of my brain i will receive) Is is possible to jump into Basic w/ a E2 and leave Basic w/ a E3 or even 4? Also, I know i have a few suggestions I can make as where to be stationed. What are the chances I could be stationed in England w/ that job title? I have checked the skill level at the Bases I want to go, and they all except the lowest level. This message has been edited. Last edited by: windsma, |

hmm....
for starters, your college credits should count for something when it comes to enlisting, but it's been long enough for me that I don't remember exactly what they'll get you. My first recommendation is to go and ask a recruiter about those college credits to see what they'll say. I can pretty much guarantee though that you won't see any rank other than E-1 until after you graduate basic. As for getting stationed in England, you can certainly put in a request to be stationed there, but you must remember that it's needs of the USAF above your needs, which in all likelihood means you'll be spending a lot of time in one of the sandboxes. Best tip I can offer you when talking to the recruiter is to not sound too eager, but be casual and ask all the questions you like. If the recruiter thinks you're a sure body in uniform, he/she might not tell you about all of the things you would be entitled to. Good luck! ---------------------------------------- "War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." - John Stuart Mill |

E-1 out of boot. Orders to where they need you.

The highest you can expect out of Basic Training is E3. You wont get E4 out of Basic.
With some college behind you, you will probably get E3 but you need to sign on for 6 years to get that. The military doesnt really look at certifications and experiance unless your a brain surgeon or doctor. |

If you're going 'RA' then you might inquire about the Army's 'Stripes for Skills'
(civilian acquired skills) program. http://www.goarmy.com/nfindex.jsp?channel=&video=# (ask a recruiter) Hafa Adai! |

Doubt the Air Force will take ya with that, but you might want to check to see if the Air Force option is even a possibility.
Just keep in mind in here that most everyone's loyalty lies with whatever branch they served in. SEMPER FI The Gunny PROUD TO BE AN INFIDEL I haven't got a clue how to change people, but I am keeping a long list of prospective candidates just in case I figure it out! |
