I've always wondered, why do law enforcement officers use the Glock and the military issues Berettas?

We've all heard the "Lowest bidder" phrase many times but, in this case the miltary tested many different models and makes before they decided on Berettas and they decided that the Beretta was the safest one out there with it's three safties. Keep in mind they had to make it Army and Marine proof!

Quick question, did you carry round in the chamber, safety off?? Thats how we do it, so it would seem that the safety is pointless, and that it is just the double action that is making it safe.... |

In the Marines I didn't carry an M-9, but I do know that they do not carry it with a round in the chamber... except maybe the MP's I'm not sure. But two of the three safties still do their job even with a round in the chamber and on fire, if you took your M-9 out and threw it aginst a wall as hard as you could it would not fire. The firing pin block prevents the weapon from firing unless the trigger is pulled, and the half cock notch will not allow the hammer to fall even if it is jarred or accidently pulled to the rear and then released. I'm glad I accually paid attention in CATM school.

the reason why you carry the the M-9 with a round chambere and saftey off is because of quick encouters....however keep in mind....while you have a round chambere and in your holster you WILL have the weapon in the quarter cocked position...it takes aproximately 16lbs of preasure to pull back the triger of an M-9 when it is first being fired unless you have the hammer fully cocked....where it then only takes 1lbs of preasure....so in short having the weapon in the quarter cocked postion is like have the weapon on safe anyways.
Also...on another short note....i wish we still had 1911 Colts |

Sapper12G I hate to tell you this but you've been missinformed on a few points. First off we ( Air Force )don't carry the M-9 in the quarter cocked postion, secondly it takes between 4 and 6.5 lbs of pressure in the full cocked positon to make the hammer fall, and by having your M-9 in the quarter cocked position that will not lighten you trigger pull by more than a few pounds, so it's pretty pointless. Thirdly having your weapon in the quarter cocked position is nothing like having the weapon on safe, because if you pull the trigger with it in the quarter cocked position it will still fire. I'm not trying to dog on you I just want everyone to have the correct info.

hmmmm, we used to tell all the FNG's to forget EVERYTHING they were taught in school. (not that they had alot to forget in the first place)
Most of my commands would ensure that all FNG's to the command, were trained with what we needed them to know, and we went to great lengths to ensure they learned it from those that knew how to show them. FNG's didn't come off the ranges until we were satisfied that they could do it all, and do it very well. SEMPER FI The Gunny PROUD TO BE AN INFIDEL America is not at war. So true, traing is everything.
I really love that 1911 I was issued. Tne thing worked trouble free and was a pleasure to practice with. And in a house search, that little darling was right there. Where's the coffee? |

I guess I'm old fashioned.
My wife and I both have wheel guns.I know,I know, join the 21 century. But here's my point. If a wheelgun doesn't fire, just pull the trigger to get to the next round. No stoppage drill,no stovepipe, just pull the damn trigger. If you can't hit it in six rounds, maybe you're better off with a frying pan.KAboinnngggggg! Not putting down semis, just happy with what we've got.KISS,and believe me I can be very stupid..........huh? If you hamper the war effort of one side, you automatically help out that of the other. Kiss always works, but I was lucky in what they issued me. Some of the 45's were in pretty poor shape and needed alot of work.
I still plink with a 22 wheel gun that my great grand father owned. It's a sweet little shooter. My wife still has her 38 special. Me, I like my S&W 39 w/upgraded ramp. It never jams and it holds 8. Where's the coffee? |

theres a certain comfort level one has when carrying a .45 with a full mag
that same comfort level just don't exist with the 9mm and twice as many bullets one .45 slug drops em dead in their tracks how many 9mm can he absorb and still be coming at me? SEMPER FI The Gunny PROUD TO BE AN INFIDEL America is not at war. The Marines are at war, America is at the mall. |

Thats why my shop gun is an old army 45. The 9 I brought when I came out of the service and for some reason feel in love with it, I was a sucker for the nickel plate and checked handles. I keep it loaded at the house with something special

I would suggest sticking with the current M-9 design, but switch the caliber to .40 cal (at least).
Another suggestion would be to just bring back the .45 pistol. INTEGRITY FIRST SERVICE BEFORE SELF EXCELLENCE IN ALL WE DO |
