Army giving away Leopard tanks
FANCY a slightly used tank for your collection? You need to get your order in quickly.
Defence Minister Brendan Nelson is offering de-commissioned Leopard Tanks to veteran and historical organisations across Australia.

They will be available after the Federal Government gets its 59 new Abrams Tanks.

The Leopard tanks have been in service since 1977 and have been central to the Australian Armys armoured warfare capability, Mr Nelson says.

To be eligible organisations have to demonstrate that the tank will be of some historical or cultural significance to them.

Organisations interested in receiving a de-commissioned Leopard Tank should register their interest with the Leopard Disposals Manager, 256-310 St Kilda Road, Southbank , Victoria 3006, or phone 03 9282 4162, by Friday, October 12.

Due to the limited number of tanks available interested organisations are encouraged to register their interest as soon as possible, the minister says.

It took 4-6 months to get a "common part" replacement. A tiger commanders tank had a minor breakdown problem during i think D-day and he was out of action to the end of the war. Tiger is good in terms of a bigass gun (which alot of tanks in late war had as good, or better), and armor. Nothing else. As i said, the bigass gun you all love (88mm), there were plenty of tanks (Alot of prototypes or unknown) with equal or better guns. I do believe the list is the IS-2,IS-3, ISU-22/ISU-22s,Su-100,SU-122,SU-152,pershing, M36 tank destroyer,Jagdpanzer VI Jagdtiger,Panzerjäger Elefant Sd.Kfz.184. So many tanks. The tiger wasnt as unique as you thuoght.

O and.. question why was the leap from a 75mm cannon to a 76mm seem like such a big difference? 75mms a peashooter but a 76mms a tank killer with just 1mm difference>?

Actually the number of tigers of both tigers was less than 1000 also the 76mm had a much higher velocity because it had much more powder behind it and had a longer barrel.

USMC someguy, they did in fact have an anti aircraft weapon that was an equal and it was the 90mm, and it actually was used for anti-aircraft duty as well as on the M36 tank destroyer.
