I've noticed that there isn't very much talking going on in this forum so I decided to make a new topic. So people, which do you guys think is the best Assault Rifle Cartridge, I myself think the 5.56x45 nato is the best as it outperforms the russian cartridges and I don't think the SPC is well tested enough yet.

1. Sorry winni but the 7.62x51 isn't an assault rifle cartridge, it is a full-power battle rifle cartridge, not a moderate assault rifle cartridge.
2. I chose the three most widely used cartridges in assault rifles and you'll see, those are them. The exception is the 6.8 SPC, but it seems to be very much on the rise. Kinda along the same lines as to which type of magazine one prefers over another. Even so that would require a specific weapon. Hey, which handguard do you prefer? wood or synthetic? darn, there's that specific weapon again....

if everyone complains the 5.56 is weak, i wonder what makes the 5.45 so good

The simple answer is, it isn't, it's an even weaker and less ballistically effective round. I have to agree on the 5.56x45 nato being the best Assault Rifle Cartridge but the 6.8 SPC has received good reviews from people I know.

You can have all the assualt rifles you want, I still prefer the M-14 for hard knock down power and distance killing, reach out and touch someone.

The American gunsmith has been trying to kill with the 223 since the early 1900s and have not been successful. The M-14 was a fill in over the M-1 and it was a good weapon that was why the USMC hung on longer than anyone else.

Coachman the day I got there they tried to give me an M-16 and I would not take it the Jarheads at Pendleton had already told me about the Tonka toy so they gave me a M-14 but when the M-16 came out in 67 with the fwd assist we had to trade them in .We didn't mind because we had about everything on the Boat by then.

Or you can go with a PTR-91 or HK91 thats a nice .308 rifle, the next rifle I am getting is a DPMS .338 with a 19 round magazine, if you want knock down power the .338 will get you there. I would like a barret M82 but im not about to plop 7-8K on a gun.

If you have a good gun dealer you can get this weapon for about 7200$ but still, 7.2K for a gun give me a break and then 3$ a shot no thank you. I can buy a really nice snowmachine or jet ski for that or trade in the ford for a Toyota and use the 7K for the difference. In fact maybe thats what I will start saving for is enough money to trade in the ford im getting tired of always having to have it fixed for one thing or another. Also I could not even imagine trying to clean this thing.

i personally like the 6.8 because it has alot of the power of the 7.62, and can drop a person in one shot, and can go through stuff before the target and still pack a punch (the 5.56 has a hard time doing this due to it's tumble ballistics), but the 6.8 is not nearly as heavy as the 7.62, doesnt give as much recoil, and easier to carry. my dream weapon is the hk416 chambering 6.8 (im not sure if they will make it for the 6.8, but i sure hope so).
