hey guys ive never seen combat but i play airsoft, wich uses the bodies of real guns, like "the gunny" said there the same, but the
M4 is easier to use in several ways, also like the gunny said its smaller and better for urban situation.

By the way U.S. Army ROCKS!!!!!!!!!

M4 is best suited for close quarters urban combat, where as the M-16 is just yer basic issue weapon.

Each weapon is very capable of a headshot at 500 meters or better.

WHAAAAT Ok first off if your comparing a 14.5" M4 to a full size rifle how do you suppose your not going to lower the velocity. And secondly i personally would love to see you make a "headshot" at 500 meters with either one of these weapons. Either with the irons or a short dot...Im sorry it just aint happening

I'm with gunny. I'm 100% positive my expert qualifications for 7 years and conduct in Iraqistan prove that the weapon (M4 or M16) is equally lethal in trained hands. And yes, you very easily can smoke a turban at 500m with an M4; just have to be a better marksman. It ain't called Kentucky windage for nothin'.

And when the $#it hits the fan, you'll still want a heavier weapon regardless.

But in one area Schwing is correct. The muzzle velocity on the M4 is lower that the M16. Shorter barrel length does decrease muzzle velocity as indicated above. Both have the same effective range.

Hay guys this is my first post on this site as i just joined today.

Having had the opportunity to use a M4 two years ago i have to say that it is a well built and designed weapon. Much better then the F88 Austeyr that i have to use every other day of the week. I will not comment on the M16 as i have not had experience on that weapon yet.

How can anyone say that the muzzle velocity and stopping power is the SAME! A longer barrel (until a certain point) allows the gas to act on the bullet for a long period of time and therefore impart more energy and speed to it, the M4 has a considerable lower muzzle velocity, and this is why I dislike it in anything other than VERY close quarters. This is because 5.56x45 round relies on fragmentation as it's primary wounding mechanism and in order to fragment the muzzle velocity must be very high.
