The railgun, as it is called, will ultimately fire a projectile more than 230 miles (370 kilometers) with a muzzle velocity seven times the speed of sound (Mach 7) and a velocity of Mach 5 at impact.

Would someone tell me what they need one for.What are they going to use for a platform.

I am glad he thinks that way but he could solve the problem by waiting until all of the people like Berkley's Code Pink & the ACLU have a big meeting and use one MOAB.

I've read that these things have been tested to fire from an aircraft in mach flight.

You get a very big bang with no nuclear or conventional explosives...

This really isn't new, they've been working on railguns in earnest back to that crackpot reagan and his star wars program, but now it seems they may be close to seeing these things in action, it seems like a very interesting concept, using a kinetic energy only projectile that scale, and I'd like to see how it turns out.
