Every one, i'm just wondering what our opinions are on the top close combat weapon?

I'd say the M4 shotgun(I think its the M1014 as well), or the P-90 SMG. Ummm... and what would u say about the famas vs the Mp-7?

A claymore mine or maybe just a claymore.
But seriously it would be
Civilian Answer: 7 round .357 Magnum S&W 686.
Military answer: Uzi SMG, as I have great trust in israeli engineering or an MP7 for superior penetration and small size.

Depends on how close.

Open Urban (wide streets etc): AR-10 (.243 chambering)

Building with open spaces/tight urban: Remington 870 P

Building with tight spaces: M1911A1, .45 ACP.

Hand to hand: Icepick or Scratch Awl (screwdriver handle)

Clay, what kind of ballistics does the .243 have? I haven't heard to much about it.

.243 packs a little more punch then .223 but the recoil is very managable it's a great non bush deer rifle and i'm sure wouold work very well in a tactical situation as for the exact ballistic i can't say probably a little slower then .223 but def better terminal energy (ie because of more weight

usmc-someguy...you asked the question as to what my favorite close combat weapon is and I answered it. You didn't state that it had to be politically correct. Close combat weapon means you are doing your level best to kill first and foremost. If one must do it in a politically correct manner then ok...a nice new feather pillow. I can kill with that just as well.

You see, it's not political correctness so much that makes your answer a little off, I think he was reffering to personal, not crew-served weapons when he said "close combat" Also personally I like the Tavor, because the bullpup design makes it short enough and it's made by the army I trust more than any in the world to make good stuff. For SMG I'd say either Uzi, MP5, or MP7.

hmmm, so naplam wouldn't be suitable in your mind either? You are restricted by your conventional thought processes. I have a buddy that split a guys head in half with a e-tool, and he swore by it so much, he never goes ANYWHERE without it, he has it to hand even now that he's retired.

But then again when the only enemy most of you will ever face is a paper target..... (which is probably a good thing for your own sake)

Do you even carry? I do, whenever I leave the home, to include church. And yes, my pastor knows. He told me over dinner of two other members that also do this and he admitted feeling safer for it. I took him shooting about three weeks ago and it turns out he's a natural once he got over the initial recoil. Had him consistantly in the black after about ten rounds.

I would take MP5/MP7 than an Uzi.
They have less weight, higher fire rate and high reliability.

seariously guys! You can't even talk about close combat until you have killed someone with a Swiss Army Knife. It was in Sudan, I was out of ammo and the enemy closed in on me. All i had on me was the swiss army knife that my father hade given me.
