Hello,
I'm an Australian college student doing a 3d modelling course and am planning to model the exterior of the AUG A1's exterior. Since airsoft guns are illegal without a firearms lisence here, it's difficult for me to find a replica I can measure. I hoped that people here might have some information/photographs which might be useful. I am looking especially for: - Any dimensions - Close-ups which highlight the shape of the ergonomics Any help would be greatly appreciated. This message has been edited. The AUG measures a compact 31 inches long and weighs just a shade under eight pounds...
Caliber 5.56x45mm NATO (.223 Remington) Barrel length 508mm (20 inches) Barrel twist Right-hand twist of one turn in 9 inches Chamber and Barrel Bore Chrome plated Overall Length 790mm (31 inches) Height 275mm (11 inches) Weight of Weapon Without Magazine 3.6kg (7.9 pounds) Weight of Empty Magazine 0.13kg (0.3 pounds) BARREL LENGTH 350 mm (14") 407 mm (16") 508 mm (20") 621 mm (24") WEIGHT OF EMPTY RIFLE 3.55 kg (7.83 lbs) 3.60 kg (7.94 lbs) 3.80 kg (8.40 lbs) 4.85 kg (10.70 lbs) OVERALL LENGTH OF RIFLE 630 mm (25") 690 mm (27") 790 mm (31") 900 mm (35.5") Steyr AUG's receiver is die-cast from aluminum and is available in two different configurations. One contains a 1.5x Swarovski optical sight which is integral with the carrying handle. The AUG special receiver is cast with a STANAG base instead of an optical tube housing and will accept most standard NATO optics and mounts. Each can be provided with a variety of options and accessories. For instance, the optical sight on the standard receiver normally contains a simple black ring, the center of which provides a 1.8-meter field of view at 300 meters. However, other reticle patterns such as circle/dot and circle/crosshairs are available upon special request. Clear lense covers which are connected and secured by rubber strips are also optional and protect the optics without distorting their field of view. Steyr manufactures both a Weaver rail and an SSG rail for their special receiver, allowing the user to mount virtually any type of optics to it. Several ARMS products such as Stanag rings and the #6 rail also mount easily on the special receiver. receiver image link Steyr AUG SA Hammer Group With the exception of a small number of parts, the AUG's hammer assembly is constructed of polymer. It is controlled from the trigger via two rods that link the trigger with the disconnector. The bolt catch is also incorporated into the front of the hammer assembly and is actuated by the magazine follower. This unit's compact and modular design allows it to be withdrawn from the stock simply by removing the butt plate. In the unlikely event of parts failure, the user can insert a new unit without dismantling the entire weapon. Steyr AUG Magazine Group Both 30- and 42-round magazines are available for the AUG. These magazines are constructed of a synthetic material which renders them highly impact resistant and virtually indestructible. They are also transparent, allowing the user to make a quick visual count of how many rounds are in them. For those who care, the magazine floorplates and followers are available in both green and black, allowing for better magazine/stock color coordination. Steyr AUG Stock Group The Steyr AUG's stock, like the barrel grip, is constructed of glass-fibre reinforced polyamide 66. The two halves of the stock are connected laterally by a unique friction welding process that leaves them virtually inseparable. By the bullpup principle, the trigger and hammer mechanisms are both housed within the stock. In order to render the AUG equally compatible for right- or left-handed shooters, the stock has an ejection port on both sides. The port facing the shooter is covered by a reversible panel, and a brass deflector is available to keep ejected casings from scarring the stock. The standard military version is olive green in color, but a solid black version is available to law enforcement or to civilians as a color conversion kit which also includes the cocking handle and the barrel grip. As for the ergonomics of the weapon? That really depends on the individuals shooting style. I paid $900 for my A2. But yes, they are selling for high dollar now. If your paying more that $1500, then you really need to shop around and buy one from individual versus gun dealers.

The M-16 A2, I assume is what you are talking about, that is a reasonablely priced rifle. I was refering to the Steyr AUG which I saw in a gun show a number of years ago for like 6,000 or 7,000 I can buy a semi auto .50 cal with an 8 round magezine for 10,000 why would I buy a .223 for 6,000. I will eventually probably buy the H&K .308 for my first rifle that will punch a hole in an IBA with plates in if you got full metal jackets, the only problem is .308 rounds are expensive.

Of course buying a plane is higher priority than any more guns. I have a 9mm with hollow points for home defense (and pop can shooting with the cheap rounds) anything beyond that is a toy. I might get a shot gun for bears if I ever go hunting or fishing, but most of the time they are on you before you can get a shot in but it makes you feel better when you carry it.

9mm pistols should not be used as home defense weapons. My advice is a 12 gauge shotgun loaded with specialty shot. Why would you want a weapon that penetrates into the next room or into your neighbors home? You are taking a great risk with your family.
And my Steyr AUG is an A1 converted to A2. I bought mine from a private party long ago. A good 50 cal sniper rifle can be purchased for around 3500. My next door neighbor has one. I went with him three weeks ago and fired 25 rounds out of it.

Just be glad you don't live in California....
Effective January 1, 2005, the .50 Caliber BMG Registration Act of 2004 (Assembly Bill 50, Statutes 2004, Chapter 494), commencing with Penal Code section 12275, regulates .50 BMG rifles in essentially the same manner as assault weapons. The law generally prohibits the manufacturing, importation, sale, and possession of .50 BMG rifles. No one may possess, manufacture, cause to be manufactured, distribute, transport, or import into the state, keep for sale, or offer or expose for sale, or give or lend any .50 BMG rifle. Here in Yuma, I could shoot the 50 cal and have rounds landing in California and Mexico.....
