http://www.military.com/news/article/new-lease-on-life-...the-beloved-m14.html I thought this would fit knowing how most of the older Military feels about this Rifle.

I don't think that I ever missed the 300 meter target during basic. Although I had to qualify with the M-16, the M-14 was the only rifle that I ever had issued to me.

I was just wondering because the M1A1 was a 30-06 which is bigger than the 308.

I guess what I was trying to say was the 308 was a 762x51 and 30-06 was a 762x63. I knew that the 30-06 was the best long range Elk gun from experience.Plus I had shot a lot of M-1s and they were a great Rifle and dependable.

Great they are reviving the M14, not that it was ever formally retired AFAIK. Might want to check this out Re: 30-06 vs .308 accuracy...

Quadvet thanks for the link I had always wondered. When I was stationed at Whidbey Island WA. I changed from 30-06 to a 8MM for the big Elk in the Cascades and from 30-30 to a 270 for the big Canadian Mule Deer.I now live in Colo.and my kids got me a Henry 44 Mag three years ago it is the best gun I have ever owned I have never used a Scope because I hunt on horseback.

Sure SULLY1, I was actually quite surprised and a bit skeptical, but can't argue with it. Of course, the M14 being a battle rifle isn't expected to make those kinds of shots.
Sounds like great times, hunting on horseback in the Cascades, I hope Colorado is as nice. Got to love the Henry. They say the 44 mag has "killed more game, big and small, and more men, good and bad, than any other in existence." Good way to prepare for possible new AW regs. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- thinking of a jazzy sig-line |
