You can look up all the flaws, capabilities, etc. yourselves and still argue. The Military Channel just did a "Top Ten Assault Rifles of All Time" episode. M-14 came in #9 or #10. M-16 came in #2. Of course one criteria they used in the show (in which I think the M-14 was "ripped off") was "length of service".

It's not the rifle, it's the cartridge. The .223 is a varmint cartridge, no good for dangerous game, especially the two-legged variety.

m16 hands down wins it is lighter, cheaper to make and has a biger clip and better rate of fire

with an ak-47 u can hit the side of a barn it was number one cause it dates back to 1947 and it is still in use and is still being made that is the only reason it won

man from what i can tell 308 kills people better then the 223 so i would say the one that kills better is the best so i guess unless m16 inclues ar10's then i'd go with the springfield

i like big cartridges although the first video relaly didnt prove any were more powerful then the others because they shot different targets

yeah i saw that a billion times. M16 won only because of service length vs the M14 if u ask me. What is the strength of an M16? single shot, long range marksman accurate shots kinda stuff. M14 is good close up (Slam the butt of that in that guys face!) and it can do the M16s job of marksmanship better, WITH more firepower

most non-mils think accuracy by volume is the way to do it and don't understand how hard it is to control a firarm on full'auto so when i say it can't hit a humvee put past a hundred yards they say SO JUST HIT IT WITH A CLIP !!! and that shit just pisses me off

First off it was actually one of the best guns in the world when it was made 60 years ago, and it's still pretty neat that it can still be somewhat effective 60 years later. Honestly the ak-47 vs m-16 is BS, the m-16 won hands down, go to youtube and look up m16 vs ak47, i think it was discovery channel who did it, m16 won. Back on topic, the m14 would probably win, I've used and M16, and an M1Garand, same exact weapon as the m14, just smaller clip. Any way, the M1 had longer range, and power, the m16 just had less kick and more clip. It's all about comfort realy.

range = legendary wall of lead is useless at 150-300 yards with that kinda recoil and accuracy.
power = Good
Clip size = equal to M16, but uses it alot faster
reliability = Best factor, and great
massability = simple to make, but only reason its cheap is because theres so many of them. m16s materials are cheaper i do believe
