There is also a legal advice forum that deals with military matters professionally and I found it very helpful for providing Army regulation references when the national guard tryed to discharge me to the IRR instead of a clean break, I printed the AR and highlighted the applicable section and emailed it and never heard another word about the IRR.

Anyway I hope the military switchs there standard issue rifle from the M16/M4 to the Colt 1020, it is suppost to function exactly like the HK 416 without the hoo haa that typically surrounds HK weapons (trying to buy an HK rifle is the most frustrating thing) when ever someone gets there hands on one its like the second comming of christ, I dont know how they stay in buisness, I guess the german government supplies them with enough contracts to keep afloat. The colt 1020 is like 1600$ so I am saving now in hopes to have one this fall.

I have to agree with both gunny and Hyperion, but at the same time add in my own weapon. G36 owns the M16 if u ask me, but the M14 is an ideally powerful weapon, reliable where the M16 fails, and as the gunny says, BAM IN THE FACE WITH WOOD and you'll be counting your teeth in no time. Both guns are good but with the new rifle M468, i'm finally feeling good about the M4A1/M16 type weapons again.

Just for you all to know---- No i've never fired either. Wish i could, and probably will when i finally enlist.

Aufklarer, if you quote Hyperion, I can read his simplistic comments. It defeats my "ignore" feature!

Do so if you must quote the sialoquent being.

1. Aufklarer, I believe the phrase is "The power of christ compells you"
2. Oh so I'm supposed to expect people on a forum for mature adults (this isn't exacltly an immature forum, or it's not supposed to be at least) to shout random ad-hominem attacks at me for absolutely no reason unprovoked? So how about this, you eff off and actually look at what you say you immature twit.

http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/ground/m16-history.htm USMC-sombody - here is the history. Most everyone out in the field depended on the M-14 because of the dependeabilty the first AR15/M-16 would jam every time it even smelled sand.I am not sure when the USMC and Army got the new bolt but that was first mod.of the M-16 which consisted of a machined chamber Bolt. The Riverine Navy got the 1st Mod in Jan.1967.

Oh god, don't get me started on the beauracratic nightmare that was the adoption of the M-16. It pretty much destroy my faith in the USDOD. The rigged ordinance tests against it were ridiculous, and even when it was adopted the ordinance commission and various other boards managed to eff it up beyond ALL belief. They didn't chrome line the barrels, they used dirtier powder than was needed, they made shoddy magizines that you couldn't load all the way up, and they didn't even issue an effing CLEANING KIT! For god sake it's obvious from this massive screw up how the M16 got it's bad name as such an unreliable gun. I swear it scares me that some of these people ran out military and could eff up so badly. (sorry for the rant but it just makes me mad that our military would screw with our soldiers weaponry and cause unnessacary death because of bureaucracy and buisness contracts with the springfield armory.)
This is also why I like the G36, it essentailly is like the M16 only with a greatly improved gas system, and without the massive beauracratic butt rape the M16 got.

And indeed. I'd throw away an M16 for a G36 any day! by the way just a thought, has anyone heard how the SCAR-L/SCAR-H, or the Tavor program is going lately?

1. I know little about the Scar program except for it's supposed versatility.
2. I've heard good things about the Tavor program. It's ergonomics are supposed to be phenomenal, and if there is one military I trust to make something well designed, it's the Israelis.

Even if it did come with a cleaning kit who wants to clean there weapon after every 30 rds, the M-16 is refuse, I should be able to fire at least a few thousand rounds with out cleaning with no malfunctions otherwise what the hell is the point if I spend more time cleaning than shooting.

The problem with almost any weapon made by HK is there avalibility, you cant buy a G36 or a 416 so the fact that they are far superiour is irrelavant because you cant get them so they might as well not exist. Though I definatly recommend the HK91/PTR91 which you CAN buy and is a great alternative to the M14 also the new SIG 556 or Colt 1020 will be a great alternative to the G36 or 416 but there avalibility is very sketchy as well but at least you can get them though the Colt 1020 is like 1600$ of course if any HK were to become avalible they would likely be over 2K so 1600$ is not to bad. Qualifying on a military M16 is like a blessing from heaven that it does not jam or miss feed on you.
