With the ever changing face of the battlefield, and the information/technology revolution in full swing; the ground fight is changing at breakneck speeds.
We have fielded the best technology with irrefutable result. The M1A1/2 Abrams MBT proved itself in the deserts of the Middle East. Now it is on the chopping block. Its latest model, the M1A4 SEPS isn't even fully fielded to the force, and talk is already buzzing in the halls and labs of General Dynamics Land Systems to look for something else. Army Modular Transformation plays a key role in the revamped land war. Talk of the ICVs(Interim Combat Vehicles) and the Stryker weapon platform, replacing our current armored force is in the works. Non-Line of Sight weaponry, and enhanced optics are making the ground game more lethal by the minute. Fire and forget technology and the Unmanned Arms Race are upon us. The US Army is already entertaining ideas of unmanned tracked combat vehicles. To include recovery and casualty vehicle platforms. Maybe its me, being a fairly young soldier, but humans make mistakes, autonomous computers make errors. A human operating a computer is a system failure. I am curious as to how everyone else feels about the growing chance of taking the human factor out of ground combat. As for me, the results are in. You take me out of the fight, I'm unemployed, and Bill Gates isn't that good, Windows still crashes, and I don't want to have to "reboot" in the middle of a fight. Seems silly to take us out and put in Robosapien. "Brave Rifles! Veterans! You have been baptized in Fire and Blood, and come out Steel!" |

It is far too complex for any other machine but a human because he does not choose from a detailed list of options and can, therefore, handle a new situation.
