I'm joining the Marine Corps reserves and I'm just speculating about possibilitys after my 6 years.

Someone told me you can be a Navy SEAL in the reserves after you've done active duty, so my question is how long do you have to be in active duty before you can do this?

Supposedly after you do active duty first..from what someone told me on a differnet board you have to do the regular 4 years of active duty to do the reserves after that.

I'll have to ask my old Frog friend (70 year old former Navy Frogman), but I've never heard of Seal Reserves either, Gunny.

Yes..but there isnt really anything to lie about. Even if you can be a SEAL reserve..it would be after your 4 year active duty contract.

I remember watching the SEAL's PT at the sub base up in Groton, Connecticut...
back in that hot summer of '69...wet suits, face masks, weight belts, air tanks and those big flippers (in hand)...double timing around that huge medical research building... all day long ...

Curt- go to US Navy Seal Website and check it out yes they have Reserve Seals you can go into Seals from Active Duty or Reserves as long as you pass the requirements and test. You must be below the age of 28 or 29 with a waiver.Don't ask me if you will remain in Reserves I don't know but I doubt if you could maintain your physical fittness their is a few Units in our Military that are like that everyday training don't cut it.

I'm not sure what you mean. Are you saying it will be hard to maintain that level of fitness as a SEAL reserve? Or it will be hard to get up to the point to be a SEAL?

Curt - If you want to be a Seal no doubt you can reach the standards if you want it bad enough.Just go to Seal web-site it has every thing and more you need to know I don't think I ever saw anyone come in here and post that knows much about Seals best to go outside the forums for the info.I will tell you one thing if you do meet their standards and make it in the SEALS you will be one good man for it.

Sully's spot on with his comments. Ask a jarhead, and you'll get a jarhead viewpoint.

Still, I never know there was Reserve Seals.....

Yea, I've already looked at all those sights and its definatly doable. I wasnt exactly "waiting" for an answer, because since orginally posting this I have thought about going active duty anyways.
