My name is Erik and I'm thinking about joining the nuclear power program. I'm 18 and married, and I wanted to see what yall had to say about how wives tend to be while their husband is deployed for 6 months. Also, do yall know how much of the NUKE training transfers for a Bachelor degree?

In answer to your first question: lonely

To the second question: Just about all of it qualifies towards credit transfer to an accredited college degree. The keyword being accreditted.

There first question about wives really depends on how strong your marriage really is, and what kind of support you have setup in advance for your wife. Have you spoken to your wife concerning your plans to be at sea for extended periods of time? What does she envision that she will do with her time? Are there children involved?

Is that right? We do not have any kids, and do not plan to for a while. What kind of on base support is there for spouses?

They have several family type support groups. Generally each ship or command has a set group of wives that form the basis of thier own support group.

More important are how you setup your wife up to take your place while you are gone in regards to finances and such. Right now, who is in charge of the family funds? Is it you or your wife? If its you, then you have to figure out how your wife is going to take care of the bills while you are out to sea. Will a power of attorney be needed? Very likely. What guidelines can you both agree on? Like what is allowable type of entertainment can you live with while out at sea? Can she go to night clubs, or just go out with the girls to night clubs? Or just go to the movies? Will you have family nearby to check on her, help her out? Does she know how to maintain the car on her own?
