I intended to join the U.S. Navy in 97'and I finished boot camp but I was not allowed to partake in BattleStations due to the fact that i failed the PT2 test. I was kicked out for two pushups. I did 49 out of 51 pushups, i passed all of the other parts of PT2. However, i was given an other than honorable discharge. What are the chances of getting the RE code changed? My RDC mentioned something about me wanting to quit his navy. That was the farthest thing from my mind. To this day i wish I'd made it in. I lost the Navy College fund and the G.I. Montgomery Bill. I've been told i can attempt to petition this at the VA office. Any ideas?

You do need to go directly to a VA office or make the attempt online through the VA. An RE-4 code for missing 2 pushups? Doesn't sound like the entire story. They don't give out OTH for that alone.
You may bump up against a time limit on appeal for that type of discharge. I believe it is 180 days from date you signed your discharge papers, but never having been in that position consider that comment as heresay. I was made to take the PT2 test EVERY day--if you know anything about the body it does not recuperate from one day to another. I'm human, aren't you? I told my Petty Officer I wasn't trying to quit his Navy. |

I have the papers to prove it-- my DD214s. There's no way to prove that it was 2 pushups that got me kicked out, as I told SULLY1; the other person and myself were made to take the PT2 test almost on a regular basis, to cover their backs. I don't consider an injustice--but it gives a new meaning to "Honor, Courage and Committment." If I had lied maybe i would still be in I don't know? |

MECHRouge-if what you said is true then you should consider it an injustice did you request a review from your Commanding Officer and if that didn't work then use your Legal Officer you don't have to except or blame the system and yes I am Human.

if you were discharged within the first 6 months of service then it should be a entry level discharge if i remember correct. can one of the recruiter confirm this. this can be waive in the national guard and after 12 months you can go active in any branch.
the national guard enlisted criteria has been changed from what i have read in other forums. might want to check out the forum over there |

Don't take that information for granted. I was told the same information just to find out that is not true at all. I still fighting my discharge, after I was told by the U.S NAVY that my discharge will be automatically upgrade to honorable discharge after six month.
Be careful with what you choose to believe coming from officers mouths in the military, especially if you are an enlisted personnel. The government always takes the officers side due to the investment. If they are telling you in six month get it in writing and certify. I made the same mistake back in 93. |

perhaps the words you didn't hear were 'automatically eligible'. A written request still needed to be submitted.
