The crew did a splendid job in bringing that fire under control. Glad to hear the injuries were minor and there were no fatalities.

Yea they took the hit, and now what are they looking at as far as their careers go? NOTHING. And what about the squid the started that fire by smoking? Hell he will never say it was me that done the dirty deed.

Sometimes integrity is hard to find within one's self, even on the boat named after good ol George ' chopped down the cherry tree' Washington.

If I remember right the reason for the fire was Smoking and improper storage of material so who would admit to one or the other.

Well, those items didn't get placed there by themselves, and that cigarette sure didn't light itself. This is where integrity comes into play.
Personally I'd have a real hard time trusting my fellow crewmates on that ship until someone owned up to what they did or didn't do. Being shipboard is dangerous enough and being on a Nimitz Class warship is considered the most dangerous place to be in the entire world, and now even more so when you don't know who you can trust. If I was the new CO, those would be the thoughts running through my mind. SEMPER FI The Gunny PROUD TO BE AN INFIDEL America is not at war. The Marines are at war, America is at the mall. |

thegunny -A US Naval Ship is marked by NO SMOKING signs not SMOKING AREA signs. The reason the Command was changed was because of other more visible material such 90 gals.of Refer oil which was the cause of the extensive damage. Some dumb-ass was maybe working in stackhouse which is maybe where the fuel lines runs topside to the flight deck from pump room no doubt they know who the dumbass is who started the fire. The thoughts going that new CO &XO are full inspections to get this Ship ready for Sea.(I read a Sailor's comment over in Military.com his comment was it is hard to start a fire on board a Ship my first thought is what dammed idiot it is very easy to start a fire.)

Gunny the smoker is not important enough for Media attention.I am sure they know who caused the fire and will be investigated if he was in a No Smoking area then it will be treated as such.I don't know any reason why the exhaust and storage room would be marked as a NO SMOKING AREA.
