It depends. If you have a college degree already, it is easier to go to knife-and-fork school and get your commission that way. If you have some college already and you're doing pretty well in it, and you decide you'd like to join as an officer, talk with an officer recruiter to see how much of the credits you've earned will count towards the degree you're intending and if it can run concurrently with a commissioning program. If you're enlisted and have some college credits, look into officer programs through your Command Career Counselor (CCC) to see which program will allow you to use the most of your college credits. If you're going in enlisted and you want to go to an officer program from scratch, there are a lot of factors the Navy looks at. A-school grades, (follow-on school grades), FITREPS, PFAs, your general attitude and performance, appearance, how well you do your job, and oral interviews. Basically the effort you put in in order to shine. The process is going to involve some paperwork, some effort on your part, and a lot of following through. It really depends on the program you're applying for and how much competition you're facing when you apply. |
