Now I had to check the Naval history of the Comstock. Commisioned '45, decommisioned '76. Entire life in the Pacific. We operated out of Diego. Think it ended up with the Formosan? Navy before the scrap heap somewhere. 10 battle stars for Korean service.
Like I mentioned to Justin, just one ship out of thousands.
There is a newer Comstock, the 45. The specs on that make you envious by comparison.
Modern technology, combined with the spirit. My niece's son who just returned from his second tour in Iraq as a Marine, gives me confidence that America still posesses it.
Now if we could get our politicans and the American public to decide who's side they're on. Think our public educational system as it's mistakenly labeled has a large bearing on that, don't you?
Think Justin fell asleep on us, or just tuned us out?

Justin Z-Grams were changes made by an Admiral by the name of Zumwalt JR who attempted to change US Navy Uniform Code and US Navy behavior but the only thing he realy did was run a lot of senior PO's out of the service I was not the only one left there was a lot of E-5 & E-6 got out after 10 or 12 years that would have stayed in. After about 10 years everything went back to normal.

I was Gator navy in 78.
I was on landing craft at ACUII al little creek anfib base in VA.

At first I thought that this duty was going to be real bad but, it may have been the best there was!
only had a 9 man crew, and a E6 was the CO of the boat...LOL

The duty was probably the best!
After seeing what everyone on the ships went through compared to my duty, I soon knew that I had it good...LOL
Even when I lived off of base and was getting comrats and baq, I could still stay on the boat when ever I wanted and eat there too!

If I was ever in again, That is where I would want to be!

Just remember two things. Boot camp is a conditioner. It's purpose is to break you of individual thought and get you thinking as a team. That is the bottom line.

There will be times you want to jump the fence...especially if your CC get's a hard on for ya. But don't worry, time will go by quick as a raisin...

When you get to the fleet, what ever your rate will be, get fully qualified as soon as you possibly can. Go the extra mile, study the books, etc... get qualified, know your job inside and out, back and forth, upside down and then, and only then, you got the world by the ass.

You'll see your ship mates skating along, putting in their time. But the difference is this. The more knowledgeble of your job you are, the more you can get away with!!

Remember what I tell you. Back in 82 era, I should have been kicked out at least a 1/2 dozen times because I was rather ummmmmm rebellious! But being I was fully qualified MM, BT, and 3/4 signed off EM, they loved me. And this was in my four years.

Before I got out, the old man had me in his state room three times tryin to get me to re-up even though I was standing in front of him at captains mast twice. Had I known my ship was leaving for a 14,000 mile west-pac 3 months later, I would have!!
