hello all, my name is Greg, i am currently DEPing, and i ship out on 20080207 (feb) i have a couple questions about the new uniforms.

i do know that the navy is NOT changing the service DRESS uniforms (thank god!!!!) but i do know that they are changing the WORK uniform to blueish/gray digital camies (seems like a great idea) as well as the service uniform ( i personaly thinks its one of the ugliest uniforms in the military i have ever seen!!)

my question is when and where do you wear the service uniform??? i know recruiters wear them, but who else??

and when you go on liberty, what do you wear, your service dress uniform??

i will be a hsopital COrpsman, if i were assigned to a ship, say in the sick-bay, or a clinic in a hospital, say in san diego, will i wear my work uniform (camies) or my service uniform??

has the navy desided if they will pick khaki or blue shirtm for the service uniform? i really dont like the kahakis, beacuse it degrades chiefs. it makes us resemble marines. and it reminds me of u-hauls uniform, black pants khakis shirt, UGhH. and i also dont like the blue shirt and black pants makes us look like the pansy ass airforce, SERIOUSLY!!

greg:

don't sweat this.. it's not like you'll have a choice on what to wear and when.. the 'dress regs' will be handed to you in triplicate and you'll KNOW what you're to wear each and every day/assignment..

not your fault they hired the Queer Guys with A Jaundiced Eye to redesign the Naval attire..

and BTW what's so ' kule' about camo pattern for navy types? I mean its not like you have to blend in to the big f**kin boat you're standing on LOL

and as for looking like marines, I would have thought navy types might enjoy that as it attracts more women, though the jarheads might get annoyed at the presumption of the navy types that thy're even in the same service..

There I was , at the head of the old 68th...

greg- The Rocketeer is right you will soon learn what to wear daily by the use of ( POD )Plan of the Day if in doubt. As far as the rest of the Rocketeer's comment I think his dry sense of humor always kicks in when you mention Navy or mabe his jelous streak kicks in.Anyone that can't tell the difference from a big Boat and a Ship often confuses me.Good Luck. By the way I think the White Uniform test is still being tested but the summer is over.

i think the camies are a good idea because, you wont have to iron a WORKING uniform like you do now with the current utilites, and coveralls.

and you dont have to worry about stains like you currently do with the utilities and coveralls.

everybody always is complaining about camies on a ship, saying what are we blending into? THATS NOT THE REASON THEY MADE THEM!!! they made them so we would resemble a military service, not a prison camp. and to have stains blend into them better. people also say that the camies are dangerous compared to the coveralls, beacuse if you working around machinary you could get caught. but the camies have a tuck in design so whats the big deal?

marines look good in their dress blues, we dont get those! and the marines wear the khakis with the blue pants and a red strip down the middle, thats pretty cool. we on the other get to wear khakis, with BLACK pants, ugh. and i HATE military button up shirts, beacuse the sleeves stop at your elbow, instead of you midarm making you look small and stupid. haha.

dont get me wrong i absolutly LOVE the navys DRESS uniform (cracker jacks, and white jumpers) but the new service dress uniform, dosnt scream navy, its screams airforce/marines!

if anybodys traditional, its me. if it were my choice i would go back to wearing dungarees, with the denim bell bottoms, and light blue shirt, with the dixie cup hat, hell yeah!!!

as for the service uniform NOT THE DRESS! they should jsut stick with johnny cashes, year round.

Greg,

You are leaving in Feb? A bit of advice, Bring your snow shovel! Razzer When I spent the winter in Great Lakes and there was a substantial snow storm, they woke us up at 3am and handed us each a snow shovel. After we finally got done at around 5:30am, we were given an hour to shower, dress and fall in for the morning march to the chow hall. Ahhh, the fine Navy memories! Big Grin

I'm just outside of Tucson now.

As far as the uniforms go-- Navy Corpsman with the Marines are allowed to wear the USMC digital cammies and the "Charlie" (Class 'C') uniforms (green or dress blue pants with khaki short-sleeve) while assigned to them.

Well, yeah, they are authorized to wear them. They don't have to! They can stick with the Navy uniforms if they like, but it was something extended to them (and they are the only personnel allowed that, Navy Chaplains assigned to the USMC are not).

A Corpsman in the field with Fleet Marine Forces, and not wearing the same uniform is simply a bullet magnet. Think about it.

are you kidding????

if a corpsman is in the field with the marines, he will not be waring anything different than the marines. all corpsman are issued charlies so they are all going to be wearing the same thing! we are talking about the service uniforms, thats the only choice you have, either side with the navy and wear the navy service uniform, or side with the marines (TRADER) and wear the marines service uniform.

Did you forget that you expressed this thought? This is why I responded the way I did. Your response presented me with a picture of a Corpsman in his blue dungerees surrounded by Marines in thier cammies. Hence the term 'bullet magnet'

haha, sorry gunny.

well, that sailor would still kick some ass!

that would be funny seeing a sailor in his dungarees, running around with a medical bag, putting IVs in marines, haha.
