Hello, I was wondering if anyone has any information on the "Dive Motivator" in bootcamp?
Do I just ask to be in it? I know it is a lot more PT but that is a reason I want to be in it. I will do some research on my own, but I would like to have some help from people with first-hand experience. Thank you. |

Hmmmm, I wouldn't worry too much about it. You will be tossed into the deep end of the pool at some point during boot camp. Every Sailor is expected to get wet at some point while serving in the Navy. One thing I have noticed about Sailors, they don't all take to the water like a duck or can stand getting wet. Reckon that's why Navy uniform policies allow you to carry an use an umbrella.

I don't know what this is......however-- THREAD JACK!
WARNING-- Old Man Story So, there I was.....on Coronado Island, going through Scout Swimmer School. Our "dive motivator" was a 2 lb weight tied to a whistle. At the end of one training day, after spending over 8 hours in the pool, we were informed that whoever came up with the whistle and blew it got out of the pool. The rest of us would continue to tread water until we got to the whistle. One whistle, about 15 guys. My best friend in the world (at the time) punched me dead in the face at the bottom of the pool when we both had hold of the whistle. He got the whistle. I had a very long day. |

well, here is what I've gathered so far, "Dive Motivator" is a program for people who are interested in doing some sort of spec ops...seals, swcc, divers, recon....ect. During bootcamp they will ask if anyone is interested. There is a lot of PT. Sailors can either choose to do this at bootcamp, "A" school, or anytime after that before the age of 21. Now I'm not sure if the Sailor has to do some sort of spec ops after this, or if they can do it just for the PT, which is what i want it for

Keep in mind that some people still go to boot undesignated. They can use the dive motivator as a stepping stone to get into special programs. If you signed with a contract for a locked-in rate (nuke, for example), they'll be hard pressed to let you think about attending.
