Watup,
So I'm seeking advice because I'm destined to join just going through the cleansing process. I'm a student in college and it's bull@#@$ costing me way more than what it's worth, i'm in debt (under 3,000) and scored pretty good on the pre-ASVAB (58).
I've been studying the KAPLAN 2007 ASVAB STUDY GUIDE for about 2 months now in order to improve my score.
*My question(s) is/are:
- Will 3,000 dollars in debt bar me from joining?
- I want to leave ASAP, after I'm cleansed inabout 2 weeks how long would it take for me to leave?

If anyone has any sightly input please respond or email me via (brussell6@ivc.edu) - It would be greatly appreciated and would never go unthanked!
Thanks for reading!
sincerely,
B.R

hmmmm, what's this cleaning process? does this mean your swearing off junk food for a weekend or what?

Debt? everyone owes money for one thing or another. Its how you are handling that debt that counts. Are you ignoring it and letting it get out of control, or are you making effort to control it and get it paid down? One does not have to be debt free to join the military.

First off thank you for the reply, very much appreciated -
Swearing off *Junk* in general food, alcohol, i smoked weed a little and never again.
I've been paying off my debt continuously and got my credit score to 786 but now am obligated to dig back into debt in order to pay court dues for a couple Infractions (Non Drug Related)

I will be paying those off as well (over time)but will join the military in the hopes of it helping my debt consolidation with a steady paycheck and education (financial education as well).

Thanks again

As far as the debt question thegunny seemed to of answered it... As far as the how fast? question.. Well that's completely up to you. Assuming you get around your other problems (drugs that you mentioned, and whatever else) then you'll get a full medical physical, and if theres nothing wrong you'll choose a job.

This is where you decide how fast you leave. Want to leave asap? Choose a job that is high in demand. You might need to sacrifice a bit with what you want to do if it's a big concern that you get out immediately, but that's your choice.

Good luck if this is what you decide to do. I'm currently in the dep which you'll learn about before long. If you have any more specific questions feel free to email me at futridtharkk@hotmail.com

First, good luck with your cleansing process. Knowing the organization that you're planning on joining, we sincerely hope you are fully successful in kicking the habit and staying clean. Getting caught with that stuff after enlisting can lead to far worse legal issues. Remember to get your waiver and look over it several times to ensure it is correct. You don't want a potentially good career to go down the toilet because of your first military piece of paper.

As mentioned, it's okay to have some debt, and $3000 is fairly small compared to some problems that currently exist in the Navy. Simple financial planning can eat away at that $3000 in a short period of time, and still allow you some spending cash during the month.

I understand you are eager to go right away and dive in with both feet. But I recommend you take some time to research your options to ensure you're getting a rating that you'd enjoy, and maybe even some bonuses or benefits. If you think college sucks now, you'll hate life if you get stuck in a job for 4 years you truly don't enjoy doing, which you had control over before you even signed the dotted line.

Remember, we as military members have made some mistakes, and watched others make far more. There is a ton of advice here that you can seek before scratching a signature and shipping off.
