Had a quick question, what color is the U.S. Navy Pea Coat? Black or Navy? Also is there any rule for patch placement on the left arm? for example X many inches from the top etc

http://buperscd.technology.navy.mil/bup_updt/508/unireg...chapter_4sec2pt2.htm As far as the Peacoat it is so black it is Blue if it matches the color of Your Dress Blues and has Anchors on the Buttons it is a Reg.Peacoat.

Mark.....I don't know if it has changed or not but when I was still in we wore no Rate Badge on our Peacoat because it was the only outside article in the US Navy Seabage authorized to wear with Civilian clothes and the old Navy Peacoat is a prize in cold weather esp. snow.By the way the left side of the Badge lines up with the sleeve crease or centerline.

Sully, I have another question about peacoats. non-commissioned officers wear the standard navy blue peacoat thats hip length, is it correct that chief petty officers wear the same peacoat thats hip length except with gold buttons? and the CPO's dont wear any insignia on their sleeve

Mark the Navy Chief wears the same all weather coat as Officers with soft shoulder boards with CPO insignia.E-6 and below wear Peacoats. The CPO's Khaki work has a short work jacket or they can wear a leather Bomber Jacket.

so E-6 and below wear peacoats and Chief petty officers and officers wear the same long coat? i thought CPO's wore hip length coats with gold buttons instead of the regular navy color buttons with anchors. and officers wore the long coats with gold buttons. sorry im confused, just trying to understand if the coats at my local army navy surplus store are authentic or not
they are selling hip length peacoats with gold buttons and i figured those are worn by CPO's they are also selling long peacoats with gold buttons witch i know are worn by officers they are also selling regular peacoats with plastic buttons with anchors on them witch are worn by all enlisted and NCO's |

Mark ... I have no idea what you are seeing but one thing I do know is a Standard peacoat is hip length and the Long coat is called a all weather coat.Might be Wave gear Mark I have been out of the Navy since 1974.
