Mighty 'O'
IN THE GULF OF MEXICO - Navy divers detonated explosives Wednesday aboard the USS Oriskany, sending the retired aircraft carrier on a 212-foot plunge to bottom of the Gulf of Mexico to create the world's largest intentional reef. I saw it on TV I guess it would be pretty bad for someone who served onboard seeing their old Ship sitting out there all rusty and then being blown up.I got pretty attached to some of my old Ships especially if you had a good crew.

If it was one of rppearso's Buddies hard to tell I pulled some SP while the Big O was inport the crew was pretty squared away for a Birdfarm. It had a good record in the Tonkin.

He was on a ship that carried marines, the marines were a bunch or ass holes and the navy crew was not much better. He hated the whole experence (he got to see a few contries but it was on the navys terms and he said it wasent worth the BS for the small amount of shore time in the forign contries that he got).
Usually the ones that appear to be bird farms are not but there moral is probably much higher because they are not under undue artificial stress by there higher ups. There is readyness training and then there is just keeping your blood pressure high so you can have a heart attack. I found with my experence that it was more important to look busy than to have your shit together. So if your shit was together (aside from nit pick hazing, oh the dust in the bottem of your wall locker, etc) and you were laying on your bed reading a non military book (oh no god forbid its not a military manual, although at that point it probably would have been wise for him to be reading UCMJ) you would get yelled at and thats BS. Just because some chief doesnt like the fact that your not up running around raising your blood pressure. |
