quickest way to become an officer is to take college credit courses and once you get a degree, you can become an officer. to my understanding, thats the fastest way to get to officer.

The Navy has District Recruiting Stations. They're most likely in the phone book. Ask for the Navy's Officer Recruiter line. An officer recruiter will most likely take your call and give you the information you need, and discuss the programs and options available to you. |

are you refering to the navy ldo program? if so then you have to be e6 before you can change over and you have to submit a packet via admin dept. co has to sign it before it goes to the dept of navy bupers

LDO is not what he's refering too. He's asking about which job would be best to have in which to get picked up officer in the STA-21 Program.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Please don't go to a recruiting station! I had a friend go to one and he had a degree from Ohio State and they ENLISTED him! I guess the guy doing the recruiting got a better bag of money for that sale. Yikes! My husband joined in 89 at a recruiting station and enlisted as a nuke on subs. He then went through the officer training program and 18 years later is a LT Commander, currently the Nav on a sub and just screened for XO. You can enlist and get there or go to a school with a good ROTC unit and join up that way. They'll pay for your schooling and the chicks dig the uniform! Good Luck! |

Referring to my own post, you'll notice the word "District" with the Recruiting Station, which is where, for the most part, the Officer Recruiter works. The fact that your friend (with a college degree, no less) cognitively read all the paperwork and knew what he was going into before signing any paperwork determining the next few years of his future places little relevance on how he ended up Enlisted. He had every opportunity to not sign papers.
I really wish people who sign contracts take a little more ownership in what they're doing with their lives. It's really not that hard, especially if you look at the hindsight of other people. |
