I am looking to enlist in the Navy and ship out as soon as possible, and my ultimate goal is to volunteer for BUD/S. However, I will be enlisting at the end of the month and shipping out toward the end of October, and I do not feel this enough time to get me in adequate physical shape. I am not extremely out of shape, and could probably be ready to pass the pre-test for NSW jobs in about a month of exercise.

So I am wondering, how physically demanding is SWCC and EOD compared to BUD/S, and is it realistic to enlist with either of those rating's and later volunteer for BUD/S. Some have told me that you can if you really want too, but because the training is hard and long with each of those rating's it would be stupid and frowned upon to go into one NSW rating and later switch to another one.

Would 3 months+basic training be enough to get me in shape for SWCC and EOD, and am I better off just picking a less demanding rate and skipping SWCC and EOD altogether and just volunteering for BUD/S when I'm ready, if my ultimate goal is to be a SEAL?

I have done some research and understand that both SWCC and EOD are extremely demanding and challenging jobs, but SEAL training has so much hype, I'm wondering if anyone can give me a comparison of the difficulty of BUD/S and ST Qualification versus SWCC versus EOD.

Thanks for the help.

Each Navy Recruiting District has SEAL-SWCC motivators. Your recruiter should be able to put you in contact with him. Each motivator has been given thorough tours of the schools and information. They are in constant contact with the program leaders - they are the horses mouth as it were. The information they give you is more up to date than anything else you find.
