I don't think you can change your contract to be guaranteed FMSS. You may or may not go to the Marines directly. It all depends. a number of the corpsman in my unit were fresh from FMSS. the FMF program consists of a Personnel Qualification Standard book that you have to get signed off by demonstrating a "general knowledge" of the information inside. After that you have Physical Tests such as field striping the M-16 and the M9 and being able to verbalize their specs and parts. You also have an obstacle course to run, some land navigation in day and night. Then you have to take a written test followed by an oral board before getting the pin.
