I am going into aviation. I hear these a pretty mandatory, what are they? What is good about earning these?

I take it that it is a good thing! Recognition? Like if you don't have it people think you are a lazy person or you don't want to succeed?

The reason for the EAWS qualification is self evident. It stands for Enlisted Avaition Warfare Specialist. It is tied to the specific type model series aircraft you support. That pin means you know everything in your trade in support of that aircraft. You have to obtain permission to even be selected to take the training coursework. You have to get signatures from the squadron warfare specialist qualifier throughout the entire process in order to be awarded that pin. He or she has to sign off that you know that module front to back before you can take the next module.

Those that have those pins earned them. They don't just issue them out.

Look at it this way, 2 Sailors trying for that one promotionn slot, one with EAWS qualifications and one without. Who do you think the board is going to select?

Obtaining that qualification is considered a career milestone.
