It has never been made clear to me what type of effect entry level seperation is going to have in my life. I am an re-4, seperation code JFC, with uncharacterized (entry level seperation). I was 18 years old when I joined, and I was a spoiled brat. I didn't want to commit so I got out. The thing is that there's not too much of me now thats what I was when I was 18. I'm now 25. I'm an EMT, and I am trying to get hired at a fire department. I have heard vague talk that someone in my position might not be eligible for a state government job... but it has never been made clear. There are no authorities on the subject that I know of. Tommorow, I am going to give them my dd-214, unless they dont even know about it, then I guess there would be no point... but I'm sure they do, I'm sure It's on my fbi backround search. Does anyone Know? and does anyone know A): If I am disqualified due to my discharge, and B): If I am not disqualified, are they going to assume bad things and not even give me a chance? It's a sticky situation, and I would greatly appreciate any information. Thanks.

Look, you were discharged via entry level seperation and coded so that you could not rejoin the military. The Fire Department is not the military. Be upfront and honest with them as it is a matter of record. If they seek additional information, tell them. Its ok to admit mistakes. Its not ok to hide them.

Besides, they are looking for team members to have integrity. Lives depend on it, especially in a fire department. You've done well getting into EMT field. That is something that counts.

Have you ran a search on State Fire Department employment requirements? It should be in there if anywhere.
