With all the recent arrival of 'sailors' still no posts in a while in this forum..what gives?

Amvet I guess I was the last post I have been out of the Navy since 73.I have heard of other problems I think they had a huge problem of drug dealing on a Carrier last year can't remember which one .

hmm..yes, I noticed you were the last poster on this area..why I made the comment..wonder where 'old salts' like HAL and RIML and Saipan are?

I don't know I would be willing to bet some of these Ships have gang problems on them.Before I left Long Beach Ca. the Navy Houses had installed ten or twelve ft.chainlink fences around the Housing it was in the middle Latino gang territory which the housing origionaly USA & Federal housing built during WW 2.I guess everything changed when the Bases starting to close down.

LOL! Mine was clear after Pataya too, but a trip to "Marilyns" could sure make you feel like you'd been bad, hehe ...

As far as the gangs go ... there WERE place on the Nimitz that you weren't really safe to walk, especially after dark - depending on your skin tone ... It's a sad state of affairs! There are SEVERAL Navy bases that are like that too, makes you wonder what we are out there fighting for sometimes, sigh ...

It's as if the Nimitz didn't get back from 1941 after all!

I never had any problems wandering around, but then again, unless I had a roving patrol watch, there was very few reasons to enter berthing spaces or other locales where there was that kind of danger.

On my own time I went to the 'public' places only.

The Marilyn's I'm aware of is in the PI. Never got to Thailand, probably glad I didn't.

In the late 80s, Thailand was even wilder than PI, but I still liked PI better. On Magsaysay street in Olongapo (Subic Bay) I remember the Sierra Club, RockTrax, T's Tavern, Florida Club, Slim's, and a host of others.

I served on the USS Cony DD 508 during the Bay of Pigs invasion April 17th to 25th 1961. I was on 3 different ships and by strange coincidence all 3 were involved in the Bay Of Pigs Operation.
I did serve two full years aboard the Cony. We were in DesRon 28, Task Group Alpha, Flotilla Four.
Twice we won the top food award! Our cooks were better than any in resturants. I loved that ship. Check out its web site USS Cony DD 508 then click on chronology. See how close the USA came to a nuclear war in 1962.

Okay then that is probably the place I remember too. It had the unusually high tables and chairs in it.

Tow Gunner I remember a club and restraunt called the Airport near the end of Magsaysay as you made you journey to Barrio.
