Most folks join a Reserve unit close to thier home. Remember, reservist only serve one weekend a month and two weeks straight once a year, unless they are called up for something else. (such as getting sent to Afganistan or Iraq) All other times he will be working his normal job.

Most reservists are stationed close to home, those that aren't are required to travel to the reserve unit location (commute). So, the moving is up to you (and him-- if you both choose to move to be closer to his reserve unit, then...). I say MOST reservists are stationed close to their home, again, it's up too your husband. For example, he chooses to enlist to be a radar tech and the closest reserve unit with radar techs is 500 miles away...well he's commuting those 500 miles away or you move closer. So, tell your husband to check out the local reserve units and see what they do there-- hopefully he'll find that his job interest in the reserves can be met by joining that local reserve unit.

I had to make a three hour drive to my reserve unit because I joined the infantry in the USMC. If I had known at the time (and know what I know now Smiler ), I would have chosen something in aviation as there was a Marine airbase 20 minutes from my home.
