I'm graduating high school this year (sophomore year) because I'm taking accelerated courses, so I can get a good year of PT under my belt before I enlist to become a SEAL. I'm going to go through DEP until I turn 18. If I make it through all the training and eventually become a SEAL I would like to become an officer. How long (if its even possible as a SEAL) would it take to get my Bachelors, I'm guessing it would take more then 4 years? I don't really know how college through the military works.
thanks -Zach |

It will take forever, you will probably barely be able to take 3 credits a semester if you are lucky and most BS/BA degrees take around 120 credit hours, unless you military works with you to get your degree or you get out and come back in it wont happen, the reason people with college degrees make more money is becasue they are not that easy to get, why dont you apply for annapolis. If anyone could get a degree in a few years between 6am PT there duty day and what ever other military BS is sprinkled in and beer with buddies it would not be worth anything. It takes 4 years going to school full time why do people think they can pick one up on the side (or at least a degree thats worth anything). The military is not a college tuition program (unless you go to annapolis or another military academy, but you will pay with your quality of life)

wait, you only a sophmore and your going into the DEP program?
im pretty sure you have to be at least 17 before that happens... another thing is that you can only be a DEPper for a maximum of a year. like rppearso said, i would go ahead and go into the naval acadamy. get some PT in and play for the midshipman, they are on a roll this year |

I don't have the kind of grades (I have a 3.0gpa) to get into Annapolis, on top of that I HATE SCHOOL and the only reason I haven't dropped out yet is because I want to join the Navy. I guess I'm just not your typical kid that hates high school. I get good grades, just cannot stand it. Also if I go get my degree outside of school I'm pretty sure I wont be in physical shape to make it through BUDS with all school work and no PT (I'm training these next 2 years as if I'm going to the Olympics). I personally think its worth the smaller pay check to be able to call myself a SEAL, if I make it.

proZack I would say your physical worries is going to be your least problem .#1 is getting there first then qualifying mentally is much more big & phyical won't even get you to 1st base. You better do some more checking the Qualls.
