You see grae, that's not a problem with the substance that is a problem with the person who abuses the subject and needs rehab, but the substance in itself is not worse that alcohol.

In the True North Strong and Free, where we grow a particularly high quality weed, there has been a long discussion about' decriminalizing' [ not legalizing ] Marijuana..
if caught with small amounts for' personal use' you would be given a ticket/fine like a parking/speeding ticket..no jail time..

Only the tobacco Industry [ mindful of diminishing profits due to ' adverse side effects ' to its current 'product' range ] has been touting the possiblity that MJ should be legalized, and therefore taxed and marketed in the same way as Ciggies and Booze..suggesting that there would be ' quality control, elimination of ' market fluctuations ' due to organized crime and direct benefit to the government though regulation,,etc..

personally I can't see the down side to that if they beef up the issue of driving while under the influence to the same level as is now enforced against DUI for booze.

Yeah, an old associate of mine heard about that and damned if he didn't pack up an move up there! Often wondered how ol Myron was doing up there. He taught me how to drive an operate a 100 ton crane. He's also the one that put a 100 ton crane right through a wall an into the indoor swimming pool in Denver Colorado. He smoked his breakfast that morning and forgot to set the parking brakes!

Actually gunny, I've never smoked pot, or anything else in my life, so it is not out of personal interest that I say it should be decriminalized or even legalized, our prison systems are costing us MASSIVE amounts of money by locking up people simply for using or even possessing, not selling mind you, drugs, because of the ridiculous penalties imposed by Reagan's counterproductive "war on drugs." It would also massively benefit the economy because it is an incredible cash crop so the middle american farmers would be happy, and it has physiological effects not significantly worse than things like booze, if worse at all. Also by making it illegal we are giving a whole host of criminals a way to make massive amounts of money. In conclusion it would be much to our benefit to legalize marijuana, and the downsides (unlike with drugs such as cocaine and crystal meth) are virtually non-existent.

Once its legalized it would not be a "cash crop" in that sence anymore becasue anyone could grow it and market it, growing efficency would drive costs way down (good for the consumer) but the mid american farmer (ie billy bob pot farmer would go under because he could not compete with 1000 acre pot farms. The reason illegal things are lucrative is because only people who are willing to risk there life for a couple of bucks partake, most smart people who know how to optimize crops etc dont enter the marked because they dont want to go to jail or get shot.
