Sorry there chaps and chapessess, but I've been a tad busy brushing up on the Queen's English as I am dining [ well munching on little sandwiches, actually ] with HRH Prince Charles and his consort, The Duchess of Cornwall, tomorrow and thus have been preoccupied in pressing my bib and tucker and putting a high shine on my boots so as not to embarrass the Good Padre.

Chuck, as Colonel-in-Chief of the Regiment, is presenting New Colours [ regimental flags- to the non-military newbies ] and the missus, the Good Padre, is consecrating them to the cause..Event takes place at a downtown football stadium with all the usual pomp and ceremony - rain or shine [ do something about that, will you, Weatherman? ] so I get a free pass to the backstage after-nosh and drinkie poohs with the Prince and get to hobnob with the brass and politicos and get shoved out of the photo ops by the muckey mucks.

...hopefully something will turn up on the local TV news or Typhoon might track something down on Youtube for afters...'cause of security issues I've got to show up hours early and go through three sets of screenings and am clutching my passes and ID forms in sweaty hands all night so I don't lose them. Wife would never forgive me if I missed getting a snap or two with my box brownie of her doing 'her thang' with Chuck and Camilla...

oh.... the stress of being important [ hahahehe ]

Sully:

the Queen is staying home to polish the silverware at the palace and leaving all the gladhanding and polite speechifying to Chuck this trip..

I expect HRH will be sporting the uniform of the senior regiment and Camilla will don some stupid hat for the occasion.. Calling for 60% chance of rain which means there will be a bunch of grumpy soldiers standing round in smelly wool kilts and stinky bearskin bonnets if the skies open up...

I am lucky that I can tote my slicker and just get to sit in the stands for the show then scurry indoors to grab a slug on a biscuit and a sip of cheap wine cooler whilst regaling the Prince with my two words I'm likely allowed to toss his way in the queue..

Good Padre gets to do the real hobnobbing [as it should be ] and, in fact, is dining privately with the biggies tonight as they discuss tomorrows solemnities...while I have some chili and cheese dogs for dindins on my own...

Rocketeer the reason I made that statement about the Queen was I read an article about a comment about where a Muslim had made the statement about Queen Elizebeth.

Rocketeer, you never cease to amaze me.
Playing Santa, involved in many different military/veteran activities, and now you (and the Good Padre) get a chance to meet and greet Charles and Camilla.
Good on ya,give them our (milspot) best wishes.Tell Chuck to drop in on the forums when he gets a spare minute!
Enjoy!

nvrbtdt:

for some reason people think I know stuff and invite me to come an tell them what I know - for money!! - this has, over the years, made me some kind of expert on things of military historical value [ or so I'm told ] - don't tell anyone that I make it all up or I'll lose my source of spending i.e. drinking ] money...

As the Good Padre has moved up the ranks, too, her unique job in the forces connects her to some 'important' people and that has had some benefits, too..

Over the years she and I have met and travelled with most of the Royal family [ my first time was with HM The Queen in '84 as her escort/equerry - 3 fun filled days ] and the Good Padre first met Prince Philip way back in '69 when she was a youngun on assignment..

Since then I've met all of them except for William and Harry and Anne [ but she doesn't get out to stuff much this side of the pond ]..
Last time, the Good Padre spent a month travelling with Prince Eddie and Countess Sophie.

So, Yesterday, it was ' old times' with them for the ceremonies..- I'm hoping I can post some links from local fishwraps showing some of the show..

BUT DAMN! Weatherman.. what the hell did you do?
We had rain, high winds blowing chairs around, eye searing sunlight and to top it all off.. HAIL!! people being pelted with frozen peas.. WTH??? No way to run a parade..

Didn't get a chance to talk to Chuck, this time -he was working the wrong side of the room. but did spend some quality time with Camilla over little crackers and plonk... Missus got a high five for her efforts and a royal handshake [ duly recorded on film by me ] and my youngest son and daughter got to practise their bows and courtsies and their ' howdy ma'am '..

Fun times, except for the HAIL!!.. Weatherman.. wake up, boy.. not funny...

some of the coverage of yesterday's meet and greet..sadly, the local press seems to have decided that photties weren't important enough to fill space in their tabloids..

Rocketeer

That sure was sporty of them to toss in an ad for a blow-up doll right next to the article.
