or should I say ' tentacles'?.. Seems the USA, in an attempt to 'influence' world affairs, is sticking it to friends as well as foes by putting the kybosh on legitimate business deals by trotting out some spurious obscure loopholes and strongarming foreign subsidiaries into being 'willing participants' in American foreign policy even if it means job losses and financial setbacks..
another ' good measure' gone off the rails, I think.. more heavy-handed than gladhanding.. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.2006...Story/international/ paranoia running a little deep in Bushland? There I was , at the head of the old 68th... |

The USA trying to"influence"world affairs?
Why,I am shocked and aghast Next thing you know the new Canadian "conservative" government will try the same dirty tricks If you hamper the war effort of one side, you automatically help out that of the other. In practice, "he that is not with me is against me. " The quickest way of ending a war is to lose it. George Orwell |

Well, these are after all Pratt and Whitney engines, irregardless of where they are manufactured. What the article glosses over is that when Pratt and Whitney allowed its design to be utilized in Canada, the export controls came into effect and that company agreed to them up front, long before they ever started the manufacturing processes. They can still sell the engines to authorized receipients or countries, but those southern goobers ain't on the list of good guys.
Perhaps they shoulda read the fine print when they bought into an American company.... Now if these were engines designed and made in Canada under Canadian name, then I reckon we wouldn't say boo to the sale. One other item I noticed, if the engine is designed for civilian aircraft, as they stated in this article, how is it they even bring up the term civilianized engine as justification for allowing this to continue, when its known and announced up front this aircraft is going to the military? Business as usual is not the standard anymore, not since 9-11. So yeah we do and will continue to spread our influence in world affairs. (better get used to it!) We are watching and taking actions where we see the potential for our interests to be impacted.
