Clare Laking passed away. he was 106...so what, you say?

well Clare was one the few remaining Canadian World War One veterans.. Today we have just 4 left- all of them over 100 years old..[ incredible in its own right ]..and with their passing an era, a legacy, a whole piece of world history goes with them...

I know that the boys and girls on ARRSE.com are writing leters and campaigning to have the last " Tommy " given a state funeral when they lose their last WWI vet [they're down to a handful as well ] and I'm thinking that I should be hounding my government for what some tribute as well [ but, we're into another election so its hard to know who to yell at when they're all out trying to ' sell' me ' their ' brand of government ]...

got me to wondering.. you folks down USA way must have more than a few WWoners still about, what with jumping into the war later than the rest of the world..Heard any rumours and such as to what ' official ' stance the government is taking on honouring the passing of a generation?

There I was , at the head of the old 68th...

Rocket,
I recently read that the last WWI British soldier who could remember the Christmas the Germans and Brits called a temporary truce for a few hours had passed away. I believe he was over 100 as well...

And I bet he didn't give a damn about his cholesterol!..lol

I'll buy the next round!
