Illegal immigration should be the topic at the top of the list.

Why is it at the back burner as far as the politicians go?
Left, or right, there is no conscious effort to make this problem the highlight it needs to be.

How many of you have written your Congressmen in regards to this?

I have written both Senators, Representative, and the President in regards to this.
I get the standard reply, but at least I make my voice heard. How about you?

I tend to revisit this issue with them every other month, or so.

It is time to get up in arms about this issue.

What say you?

Here in the Southwest (Dallas) this is a major issue that is not even being discussed. There are now entire sections of Dallas where English is a second language. The schools must hire Spanish speaking teachers, and English is taught as the second language. Crime is rampant, graffiti is everywhere, and gangbangers run the streets. There are even kidnappings now, like in Latin America. (Yet, the police continue to sit in speed traps and give out tickets, instead of dealing with the crime.) The face of America is changing right before our eyes, slowly but surely, with each new illegal immigrant. We need a huge barrier, like in Israel, that runs from the Texas Gulf Coast to the California coast. And we need the U.S. Military to help stop this invasion.

By the way, some news reports about Mexico indicate that Mexico is digressing into a narco-state like Columbia. In Mexico now, there are at least ten multi-billion dollar drug-cartels, each with their own "special forces" Some of the guys in these drug cartel special forces are former members of Mexico's military special forces. The Dallas Morning News has run several articles on this subject. Unfortunately, on the Net, these articles require a subscription.

I also saw a article in Dallas News where the Border Watch groups are worried about a group sponsered by a Vietnam Veteran in Ca.called the Minuteman.I also know from living in Southern Ca. for so many years that there is many laws that have been voted on and have been passed and are being held up in Ca. Courts and have been there for years.

hmmm... just what military is gonna patrol that wall ?? we don't have enough military now .;. to fight the war in Iraq .. plus there's that little problem with posse commitatus ..
and even if we do lock the border .. searching every container, trailer .. and other vehicle coming through .. there's off-shore and aircraft ..
and you can't make too tight since there's a lot of mexicans that live in mexico and commute to US border towns every day to work ...not to mention products that are imported every day ...

Lets face it, our borders are pretty much wide open and will probably stay that way. I don't advocate using military to patrol our borders, we already have a dedicated force to do this. If need be, increase their numbers to handle the job appropriately.

We have a real problem and not just with Mexico. Politics won't let us do what we need to.

The 'border' between US and Canada hardly exists. Remember, that's where the 9/11 assassins came through.

I can take you to places (and so can just about everyone else in the area) where you can simply walk across the 'border' with a sign on that says, "Hey, I'm a terrorist" and not a single person will challenge you; they'd probably chuckle.

Everyone wants border control these days, but how to do it is seemingly unsurmountable.

And Canada has much looser immigration standards than the U.S., and remember ROTC during the Vietnam War?

Canada is and has been an ally, but although we may sing in the same choir, we may be on different sheets of music.

The Minuteman Project,a group of American civilian volunteers based in Arizona, are making plans to patrol the open border between Mexico and the U.S.(www.msnbc.msn.com).
The Minuteman group is composed of approximately 500 U.S. citizens ,tired of illegals coming into America unimpeded by paid law enforcement.
Of course the head of the Border Patrol is worried.I guess if the MP people do too good a job he'll be out of his job.

btdt I had posted a comment about the Minuteman above but no one wanted to talk about it so I left it alone.I also read in the Dalles News where they claim that ex- Mexican Military supposed to be equivlent to our Navy Seals are being used for muscle for the drug Cartel and is actualy spilling over into Texas what bothers me most is this supposed to be Border Division people doing all the complaining all have Latin names except that guy named Hover that was putting out water for Ilegal Imigrantes in the desert last year and has always been a pain in US.Seams that the Governors of these States concerned about the Ilegals Civil Rights and International Incident.

Agreed. The commander of the Border Patrol wants the Minuteman Project to put out water for the illegals while tracking them!!
I too have read other articles about the Mexican military coming over the border escorting people.Plus what else they were protecting God only knows.Terrorist cells, drug or weapon smugglers, the possibilities are only
limited by your imagination.
The politicians are no better.Even Pres.Bush has called for illegals to be given amnesty after 5 years in country-illegal or not.The pols realize that the Hispanic vote will go to whichever party sponsers and passes the bill to make them legal. That's a lot of votes and serious money for the party coffers.
I say GOOD on the Minuteman Project.
Sorry about not reading your earlier post. Will check more carefully from now on.

I think the Border Patrol is worried about the movement Minutemen are creating people all over the United States are begineing to take notice and when that happens then maybe something might be done to shut down the Border.

I realize we can never competely contain our borders. But this wink and nod routine that is going on now is damn ridiculous.
We have a MAJOR influx of illegals here in Jersey.Right out in the open, looking for day work.
People rationalize..."well they do the jobs Americans won't do".I agree, but that doesn't mean we should let them come in illegally!Send them back, let them get the proper paperwork, and the jobs will be here when they come back-all legal.
The problem is too many Americans are getting rich doing the illegal hire shuffle. They complain that if they hire legals they have to pay bennies, social security, taxes, etc.Well tough titties! This is America. We are supposed to do things legal. If you can't hire a legal then maybe you should be working for someone else yourself and not running your own business.
Bah...I say good on the Minuteman Project. It's not a solution but a beginning...

I was reading the paper last week and there was an article that said that Congress wanted to increase the border patrol by 2000 people and the president wants only 250 people. There seems to be a conflict with rhetoric and action once again.

Once again, when our elected officials refuse to act,a well armed and regulated militia must.
What do I mean by a well armed and regulated militia?American citizens!
The pols forget that, WE THE PEOPLE,are in charge. The pols SERVE at our behest, not the other way around.

As usual Gunny you are correct.
There is the idealism in which our country is founded and there is the reality of now.
I still say good on Minuteman Project.God helps those that help themselves.
Here in NJ the Feds ran a sting on local politicians awarding contracts in return for favors.Busted 13 or 14 councilmen,Mayors, etc. in 6 different towns. Roll Eyes
How many more people came into our country today
illegally?!??!
