Gee.. quite the lengthy post there B..
don't have the time or the inclination to step in and rebut a number of points but two things.. A] " marriage " in a recognized/legal form predates the Judeo/Christian ethic and was a secular form/ceremony meant to establish publicly the linking of families/houses/alliances so that all those around knew the ' new rules' etc... The ' sanctification ' of marriage by clergy/established religion was an add-on to an already existing procedure - call it a crass insinuation or a genuine need by the nascent religions to seek a place in a an important public ritual.. Churches or whatever stripe have no copyright on marriage as an institution, though they are perfectly within their rights tgo tailor/define the parameters for their own adherents.. as for the issue of Gay/Homosexual Union as a recognized entity, again, we're not talking about redefining ' marriage ' bu adding to the legal recognition/law of an alternative public committment to be seen as a ' familial relationship ' for the purposes of rights/inheritance/protection, etc... in that regard Gay Marriage is a civil rights/equality of persons issue and, again, has no bearing of religious/personal beliefs..it is government acknowlegement of status.. Personally, I would like to see marriage abolished as a state sactioned issue.. Governments would merely accept/record a ' civil union ' [ as happens in China/Russia and such places as France -probably a large number of other places ]- marriage ceremony in a faith-based environment is then held separately by those in a community of believers to ' elevate ' or ' sactify ' the recognized union. States have no business in defining/prohibiting or otherwise affecting private commitments of two people to each other in the face of their peers.. When the down side of a ' legal marriage 'starts to present itself [ and we've already had a couiple of 'gay divorces ' up here with all the usual entanglements and impediments ] then the issue will fall off the radar and be seen as simply same old same old as everybody else...we're all equal which , to me, means gays/lesbians/transexuals/tansgendered and any other indeterminate ' person ' is allowed to live the same crappy life we all get in this world without fear or favouritism... there are much bigger ' problems' in the world than worrying about the family next door having his 'n his bath towels... There I was , at the head of the old 68th... |

that kind of stuff doesn't bug me, I mean how does it affect my daily life if two guys want to get married? It doesn't and who says it's wrong? Who are they? How do they count? To each his own I always say.....
