Sully1 I kind of doubt that.

Actually this is different. And I kind of understand it. Years ago (maybe in the 1960s or 70s) Marines were restricted from wearing the camouflage uniforms (combat uniform) in public for exactly this reason (that it could scare the public in thinking it was "martial law" time). And it's a regulation that still stands today. Even when we did urban ops in the Los Angeles (CA) area, we did them only at night and with a full police cordon around the area. And press releases were very local. Sometimes the cops went door-to-door in a specific neighborhood and that was the only notice they received. And I think the press is sensationalizing this a bit in light of the Berkeley thing. Incidentally, I belonged to 2d Bn 24th Marines and we were based in CA. For our urban ops we used to go out to Burbank Studios and tear up some inactive movie and TV sets. I got to personally assault the set of Laverne and Shirley, The Dukes of Hazard, The Rifleman, and I stormed the Bronski Theater and a couple blocks of 1941 Berlin....and some others. Pure awesomeness.

After I re-read the News Paper this probly was set off by a new Mayor not being informed of previous Mayor's agreement and not passing the word to the Marines.

I would have thought that out going mayor would have told him, but he has lived there for sometime he would have had to see the marines have been doing that training before.

Yes he most likely did know but in a City as large as Toledo there might just be a power struggle between the Mayor & a well dug in Police Commisoner they quiet often are not the best of friends a Mayor gets his nose in places where it doesn't belong and the Old Salty head Cop gets jumpy and you have to remember the Mayor was a new Elected.

http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/misc?url=/temp...ri=&NoMal=1&ID=16111 Agree or not people are getting tired of City Officals telling our Marines to get out.Even though this page talks about another option was offered the USMC CO stated that he knew of no other option had been made.

Hmmmm, out here in Yuma, the city takes part in the training, offering up high schools, allowing convoys and between 35 to 50 Marine aircraft to take off and land at the schools. This occurs day and night. Plenty of noise and shoot em up with simulated explosins and the like. This has been going on for years.

still think its nice to know that a Marine in combat gear shooting blanks can instill such fear even here in the states! That Mayor just ended his career in public service!

The local Toledo TV news (which I can get) has not been too kind to the mayor as far as I can see. I am thinking about getting everyone to move out of Toledo by setting off firecrackers on the border!
