Opinion at http://www.theconservativevoice.com

Who's idea was it to commission a [Seawolf class, Nuclear Attack Submarine,] The Jimmy Carter? The first sign of trouble the damn thing will hide under the pier. What Sailor would willingly serve on something named the Jimmy Carter? Commanding and serving on the Jimmy Carter could only become the career buster for its officers and crew.

Can you imagine telling your grandchildren your entire Navy career you served on the Jimmy Carter? I would rather tell them I served on the Minnow with Gilligan.

I have an image of the sub’s first assignment. The Captain tells the crew, “Men we are going out into the Atlantic, our mission will be to protect the fleet. Full speed ahead.” The sub immediately [on it’s own] goes into reverse and grounds itself on Fire Island Beach.

Can you imagine the shame and ridicule the Jimmy Carter would suffer among all the other proud submarines in the Navy’s fleet? Not to mention the Cruisers, Aircraft Carriers, even the tankers and supply ships would make fun of the poor Jimmy Carter Submarine.

The sub would never survive it’s shake-down cruise. The first time they loaded a nuclear device the poor little Jimmy Carter would throw-up and demand to return to sickbay, “You can’t feed me those things.”

If sent out into the depths of the ocean with sharks, the Jimmy Carter would probably shake apart form sheer fear. Who ever heard of a, [Pacifist, Seawolf class Nuclear Attack Submarine?] Unless it’s designed for use at the UN. I can see a use for Jimmy Carter at the UN, Kofi Annan could use it to transport bribe money from various Dictatorships to his Swiss Bank Accounts.

I guess one sub in the fleet that can’t shoot straight can be tolerated. I just think they could have chosen better, maybe a harbor-tug or something less ominous.

It reminds me of a joke:

Jimmy Carter is near the end of his presidency, sitting in the Oval Office when the ghost of Theodore Roosevelt appears.

"What's wrong," says Roosevelt, "you look gloomy."

"Well, I haven't had a very good four years. The economy is in shambles, and the Soviets are making advancements around the world. Now they're in Afghanistan too."

Roosevelt replies assuredly. "Russians in Afghanistan? What did you do? Did you send the Marines?"

"No" replied Carter, "but we did voice a very strong protest at the United Nations. And did I tell you, the Iranians are holding 53 American hostages."

"Oh no," Roosevelt replied. "In this case I'm sure you sent in the Marines... and the Navy, Army and Air Force."

Carter replies: "No, but we did voice a very strong protest at the United Nations."

Roosevelt is fuming at this point at the lack of Carter's backbone. Roosevelt quips back: "Isn't that great, I suppose you gave away the Panama Canal too!"

Carter: "Well..."

Good joke TOW !I'm sure T.R. is rolling over in his grave due to some of our Preidents and their lack of backbone. However,I have no problem naming a warship for Pres. Carter.Yes,he was a terrible Prez but he was a Navy man.
Interesting news regarding George W's use of marijuana during his younger days.
Is anyone really surprised?I think we all know that he used to be a hearty partier in the day.He just was smart enough not to confirm or deny useage.
And what kind of "friend" tapes your phone calls then releases them to the press? If you are in politics you can't trust ANYONE.
Is that why W messed up on his Guard obligation?Had the dirty urine and just used his connections to get out of the Guard?

I really don't have a problem with the naming either, since Carter was a submariner. And Bushie W. shouldn't have a ship named after him. But Bush 41 should! By the way, many of our recent presidents pale in comparison to Teddy.

About Bush and the marijuana. After reading some of the comments that were recorded, I don't really think less of Bush, and maybe just a little more. Bush was candid when he stated why he didn't want his toking publicized. There was no sound bite there, so he thought. He didn't want kids to think it was OK. Also, about the gays. Bush said he "didn't want to kick the gays" (in response to evangelicals wanting blood) because how could he diffferentiate from his own sin. These statements show a compassionate side to Bush, in my opinion.

To answer your post on both accounts I didn't approve of a lot of things that Carter did as President but he was part of the first Nuke team.Besides I already had my say over at Mil.
This crap about the tapes it is a shame after the Elections this Country is so divided almost like we are on self destruct people don't seam to have any feelings for no one but themselves.

Hmmmm, now wouldn't it be a bite in the ass, if the USS Jimmy Carter were to be the sub that launches the first weapon into North Korea?

Folks, let us not disparage the new crew of a brand new sub, before its even left the dock. It has a history to build, and will do so with distinction.

I for one, am very pleased that we have a brand new, state of the art weapons platform out there detering our enemies. I could give a crap who they named it after.

I haven't got a clue how to change people, but I am keeping a long list of prospective candidates just in case I figure it out!
