Question:
With new, tougher illegal immigration legislature in the works, the Nation falls into a heated debate. Do you think the new laws are beneficial to our current immigration problem? Or is detrimental to our growth as a Nation?

Choices:
A sound plan. Electrify the fence, give the green light for snipers.
Heck no. Tear down the borders, let everyone in. Quit hassling them.
I could really care less. Don't block traffic with protests, I'll be late to work.

I think that if jobs are open for more people than can fill them then maybe we should have more work visas for people which will allow them to enter this country legally. What ever is passed, it will not work because there will still be employers who want to pay below the going rate in any area for workers and will hire illegal workers.

This is a tough call for any President and Bush being in the tank with the polls doesn't make it any easier.

First: By all means the regulation and control of immigration has to be enforced. Not only is it not fair to those who went through the hassles of doing it ' right ' to have others jump the queue, illegals are a huge drain on the system in education, health, etc.. costs hurt the economy.

Second: Unless ' real Americans ' are willing to take the slop/scut jobs that pay lousy but are ' essential ' to keeping the economy humming [ The IT Specialist can't tweak the ' puter if he doesn't have lil ol' Maria at home slaving to keep his kids happy and their house clean ]. Who's going to clean the pools, Trim the hedges, park the cars? Bob the builder can't offer Joe Blow the affordable housing if he can't get wetbacks to lay brick and plaster walls.. etc. etc.. What choice is there? Pay higher costs all round?

Third: Unless you're going to go into every nook and cranny, haul them all out and send every ' illegal' back to where they came from, separating them from their ' American ' kids who were born in the USA [ or taking away their citizenship ], you got to find a way to make them ' kosher ' by a blanket amnesty, registration or something..and who's going to pay to remove 12 million people?

Close the borders. Shut Down America completely.. no one in or out.. Anyone who is ' in ' the USA illegally on such and such a day is now officially American - they got to show up at a designated place and get the rubber stamp/plastic card - after that,if they haven't surfaced and signed in, or anyone else, they're a target.

Can't answer the poll as put. Yes, get tough, but the current bill is a recipe for creating the United States of Mexico. It's a Trojan horse and will allow so many millions in and reward mofo scofflaws, that this country as we know it will no longer exist.

What actually seems to happen is that Bob Subcontractor charges the builder $26/hour for Union Labor, pays his illegal aliens $9, or even $11 or so and pockets the rest. So your house still winds up costing as much.
All that happens is these people come up here and distort the lobor supply. Result more and more seems to be that wages go down AND working conditions get worse.
I personally know of a guy who had a job at a bakery and several weeks later was told he was fired because "the Mexicans are here" and he could pay them less and make them work 12 hours or so. Bu-bye gringo.

I live in South Africa, which is the immigration mecca of Africa. I wish the government here would take those steps, as about 90% of the immigrants here are illegal, and all of the illegal ones are criminals.
