So, rampant speculation that Al Gore, after saving the planet, will want to take a run at stepping back into the running for the Dem ticket just to put Obamas in his place and piss off HJillary..
think that is true and he's up for it? Or, has this train left the station and him without his carpetbag? Float like a Lepidoptera, Sting like a Hymenoptera |

I doubt that he will run because he feels that he is doing something more important.

Al Gore is conscienceless hypocrite.
His "people" responded he relies heavily on solar power. Apparently he does: between him and Tipper, 2 people use 2/3rd of the solar power generated by the TVA, leaving the remaining 1/3rd for everybody else on the grid! ______________________THE STRENGTH OF THE WOLF IS THE PACK; THE STRENGTH OF THE PACK IS THE WOLF--Kipling |

I highly doubt he's going to run because he just isn't popular enough to win, though I think he'd make a pretty good president.

I think he sees his role differently now.
I wasn't able to vote in the 2000 elections, but I would have been pro-Bush at that time (nope, not in 2004!). Since 2000, I think Gore's learned a lot of humility and charm, and has still tried to do what he thinks is important in the roles that are open to him. The Democrats would like him to run due to recent polls that have his support ahead of Hillary or Obama, and a few points ahead of most of the GoP candidates. He's a bigger name than either, and won't face minority-backlash from the people who may have wanted to vote Democrat but can't wrap their heads around the idea of a woman or black man as president. PT, yeah, I've seen that report too. What a red-herring. Anyone with a 20 room mansion is going to consume multiple times the "average" American's power requirements. So what? The guy worked his whole life, made a bunch of money, has a large family, and should now live like a monk while he tries to make the world a better place just so he can avoid "hypocrisy" attacks? Let me put it this way... "Average family" 942.46 kWh (extrapolated from your quote) a month 942.46 kWh x 500 families = 471,230 942.46 kWh x 500 families x .95 (assumes 5% savings in power)= 447,668.5 for a net savings of 23,561.5kWh per month per 500 families "Gore Estate" 18,400 kWh a month (pulled from quote) So, um, 23,561.5kWh > 18,400 kWh, which means even if he only got 500 families to spend 5% less power, he more than paid for his extra allotment as far as society is concerned. Gore's activities just since 2000 have influenced far more than 500 families. For example: Rising public awareness and the advent of the compact-fluorescent light bulb alone will save a ton of energy in the next several decades. Australia, the EU, and even the US Congress are all hopping on the bandwagon. (supporting links below) http://www.ens-newswire.com/ens/feb2007/2007-02-21-01.asp http://www.nytimes.com/2007/01/02/business/02bulb.html?...artner=rssnytemc=rss and http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-bulbs24feb24,0,20...ll=la-home-headlines (probably the best link) So, yeah, that quote PT has is a pretty obvious ad hominum attack, which is usually what the other side resorts to when they're all out of ammo. In politics, that's when it's time to start attacking the people and try to sway some opinions that way. |
