Well, as you can see from my posting elsewhere, I made it back from the past [ barely ] and whumped US ass on the field of honour... The good lawd blessed us a bit too much with ' fine weather '.. 29 C - 35 with the ' windchill factor...

and in typical military fashion we took to the ramparts at the height of the sun.. nothing says ' heart attack ' and ' heat prostration ' better than running across broken ground in front of thousands of paying customers in two layers of dark wool and bearkin hats firing weapons that heat up as fast as you load 'em so that after a half dozen shots you can fry an egg on them, while black gritty acrid powder covers your face in a smelly cloud of smoke and debris..

in other words - Heaven on Earth...!!!

As for my American pals, the usual bunch was augmented this year by a contingent of US Marines who drove 13 hours from " Basten " [ Boston ] to take part in the festivities...they upheld the traditions of that fine corps very well and impressed the flatlanders with their precision drill and deportment...

The women ' manning ' the bucket brigades were kept busy quenching the thirst of the armies on the field [ while the barkeeps surpassed themselves quenching the resurgence of thirst after the ' cessation of hostilities' and the removal of noncombatants from the encampment..]

the field surgeon had only one major injury to deal with when an overzealous member of His Majesty's forces failed to realize Cannon have no brakes as he ' liberated ' a field piece from the enemy and attempted to turn the weapon upon the foe...the femur will knit sayeth the sawbones...

while slumming with some colonial militia I learned that one should avoid plastic camp jugs reported to be Vodka and Orange Juice.. [ Tang Crystals dissolved in alcohol isn't a mix served at fine drinking establishments...]

The next ' encounter' has already been agreed upon and the forces of Republicanism and the Crown are already on the march to the next battlefield..

with any luck my weekends are busy for the next six weeks...

The Big Event will be in mid-july at the Grand Tactical at Fort George [ Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario ] featuring land and naval battles and for the first time this century a battle between the nations..as Fort George will trade artillery fire with the guns of Fort Niagara [ Youngstown, New York ] across the river, just as it happened 194 years ago...

Once I destinkify my dress tunic and restock the munitions wagon I'll be back in the saddle and ready for fame and glory and a stiff drink [ or 12 ]...

Thanks, but duties and tariffs make it a bit 'pricey [ besides the smell may curdle the drug/explosive sniffing dogs at the border ] .. anyway.. current temp is 30C and expected high today is 35 before ' tea time '..

Not the highest temp for this neighbourhood, though.. that was back in the old days of farenheit: 115 in the shade...

BTW.. got a snap of the Good Padre and Daughter the Lt. for show and tell if I can figure out how to stick it up somewhere on this site...

seems ' luddite' is my middle name...and there's never a six year old IT techie around when you need him...
